Puerto Maldonado pickup & boat to eco-lodge (L/D)
Upon your arrival in Puerto Maldonado, you’ll be greeted at Padre Aldamis Airport, the bus station, or your hotel. Afterward, we’ll transfer you to our office, where you can repack only the essentials for your jungle adventure. Be sure to consult the travel guide for a comprehensive list of what to bring.
Your journey then takes you along the Madre de Dios River, surrounded by the breathtaking scenery of the Amazon jungle, arriving at Amazon Planet Lodge in approximately one hour.
If you arrive before 11:00 AM, you can check in at 1:00 PM, enjoying refreshing fruit water before lunch. Once settled into your private bungalow—your bags will be delivered by our staff—you’ll have some time to relax before your first activity. For those arriving after noon, you’ll reach the lodge by 3:15 PM, where you’ll quickly register and refresh before diving into your first experience.
Your first adventure begins at 3:45 PM with a guided jungle walk, where you’ll explore the fascinating ecosystem surrounding you.

day 2 - Amazon Jungle, Peru
Jungle walk and visit to Taricaya Reserve (B/L/D)
Your day begins at 7:30 AM with a hearty breakfast. At 8:30 AM, embark on an exciting excursion through the forest, following the river until you reach the Taricaya Volunteers Lodge and Research Center. Here, you'll visit one of the leading conservation projects in the reserve—the Taricaya Wildlife Rescue Center. Encounter a variety of rescued wildlife, including macaws, toucans, spider monkeys, howler monkeys, jaguarondi, bush dogs, river turtles, tortoises, and even Andean Spectacled bears rescued from a circus.
It’s important to note that this is a rescue center, not a zoo. The animals you see are part of a rehabilitation process aimed at returning them to the wild whenever possible. Some residents, unable to survive in the wild due to various reasons, enjoy a high quality of life at the center. Taricaya has made significant contributions to repopulating the jungle, including the black spider monkey, which was once extinct in the area.
You’ll also learn about the Taricaya turtle project, where turtle nests are relocated to protect them from poachers. Depending on the season, you might see flags marking these nests. After enjoying the sunset from a tower near the river, you’ll make the two-hour walk back to the lodge through the forest.
Lunch is served at 1:00 PM, after which you can relax in the hammock area, sip a cocktail from the Tunche bar, or unwind in your private bungalow.
At 3:45 PM, dive into an exhilarating afternoon with the Taricaya Canopy Walkway. This deep excursion into the Taricaya Ecoreserve takes you through an ancient primary forest with trees over 300 years old, as your guide shares insights into the rich history and biology of the flora and fauna around you. Arriving at the first platform 15 meters high, you’ll access a 90-meter-long suspension bridge leading to the canopy platform, perched 45 meters up in the crown of a magnificent Kapok tree. This thrilling experience offers breathtaking views and the chance to spot flying macaws, parrots, and toucans, culminating in an unforgettable sunset over the treetops.
As evening approaches, at 6:00 PM, experience the jungle’s transformation during a night walk, where you’ll observe nocturnal animals adapting to the darkness (approximately one hour). Back at the lodge, gather with your guide for a conservation talk, where you can learn about the ongoing efforts to protect the Amazon and watch videos showcasing these vital projects.
Dinner is served at 7:30 PM, complemented by delicious Amazonian cocktails at the bar. You can then relax and reflect on your enriching day before calling it a night.
day 3 - Amazon Jungle - Puerto Maldonado, Peru
Boat to Puerto Maldonado & Puerto Maldonado Drop-Off (B)
Your final day begins at 7:00 AM with check-out from your bungalow. Make sure your bags are packed and ready for our housekeeping staff to transport them to the boat—don’t forget to double-check your room for any belongings! Following this, enjoy a nourishing breakfast to fuel your journey ahead.
At 8:00 AM, you’ll board the boat for your return trip up the river to the city. As you glide along the water, take in the lush scenery one last time.
You’ll arrive at our office or AP house by 9:30 AM, where we’ll arrange your transfer to the airport, marking the end of our services. If your flight is later in the day, feel free to stay at our house/office. We’d be happy to recommend places for a self-guided city tour and can help coordinate a later transfer to the airport based on your schedule.
