The trip is very comprehensive seeing all the major sites and some of the lesser known sites but all added to the sense of the sophistication of Ancient Greece. George our guide was able to bring these sites to life with the stories of Greek mythology. There are some long-ish driving days but the scenery is stunning and was a great opportunity to bond with the group.
Really a fun and educational trip. Highly recommend for those interested in a broad overview of Greek history.
The vast timeline of history on this trip was truly amazing. Many of the archeological sites we visited were in breathtaking locations. I was in awe the entire tour. Even the times we were driving from one location to the next was amazing as the landscape is so beautiful.
Well organised trip taking in the well known sites like Delphi and Olympia with lesser known gems.
Thoroughly enjoyable. A good introduction to the classical sites of ancient Greece. We feel we have a much better grasp of Greek history now. We covered a lot in the time, but the pace of the trip was about right.
Good, full-on trip covering lots of ground and amazing scenery and history.
Fast paced trip taking in a wonderful array of antiquities and beautiful Greek towns. Hits all the main sites, with some less know gems as well.
A trip to major sites and a good chance to cover quite a bit of the country and appreciate its natural beauty
Excellent trip
Covers all the expected areas and some unexpected ones. Pacing often seemed hurried but in retrospect was about right. Reasonable vehicle used with enough space, although the single seats seemed rather narrow (the seat belt connectors were recessed make the narrowness less noticeable) Lots of early starts but in most cases there was time to look around the overnight stops in daylight. The lunch stops in most cases offered options, but not all. Evening meals were of a good standard throughout. Hotels were very varied, from bunkhouse to very good. As expected the Athens hotel was the worst, tiny room, impossible to walk round the room without climbing over the bed and in a dingy sidestreet.
We thoroughly enjoyed our time in Greece . The ancient sites were interesting and brought to life by the almost forgotten stories from Greek Mythology. The museums were excellent and complemented these sites. It was not just Ancient Greece as Mystras and Meteora were amazing too especially with their locations . We drove through some beautiful countryside and alongside the blue, blue sea. A well balanced trip
We had a fantastic time visiting the ancient Greek sites. It really brought to life all the stories that I’d read about the ancient civilisations.
Great trip if you're interested in Greek history. Sites visited cater well for visitors and museums are well set out. Countryside and scenery is lovely. Besides last day driving time each day not too long. Accommodation was clean and comfortable. Nice pace to each day.
What a trip! Having previously only visited a couple of Greek islands, this trip truly opened my eyes to the myriad wonders of mainland Greece. A real whistle-stop tour of the country, spanning beautiful coastline and mountains. Maria, our tour guide, was enthusiastic, kind, passionate, knowledgeable and accommodating. Her content and delivery was interesting, and was positively remarked upon by the whole group. There is seemingly nothing she doesn't know about Ancient Greece! A brilliant, potted history of some of the most iconic and important sites around Greece. For those who love history, architecture, good food and wine (and nice hot weather!), this trip is definitely for you.
This tour was a comprehensive introduction to some of the sites of ancient Greece, but also included Mystras, a Byzantine town and Meteora, a spectacular landscape with monasteries perched on top of huge rocks. I would personally have benefitted more from what I saw if I’d read up some information in advance. Lida, the guide was excellent, and she gave a lot of useful information about the sites and the mythology and history behind the sites and the history and mythology about them. The hotels were generally good quality though the Rex Hotel in Naufplio was a little tired decor wise. The Nidimos hotel in Delphi village had the best views! There was plenty to eat, of variable quality. The restaurant for the evening meal in Pylos was not very good; the booked group table was given to others, service was glacially slow and the food uninspiring.
