Great balance of sights, experience and cycling. Fantastic food
A great trip, fantastic scenery, good hotels and restaurants. The tour leader was knowledgeable and helpful. The roads were very busy during the first couple of days, after that they were much quieter. The itinerary also included some extras, such as a boat trip, tea plantation visit, game reserve, tour of Kochi harbour etc... The bikes were adequate, but would benefit from a little preventative maintenance, e.g. occasionally oiling the chain, adjusting brakes/gears, checking tyre pressures. Overall a great experience.
Great trip covering highlights of Kerala. Fabulous tour leader and support team. The rides started easy and flat, and became progressively harder with increasingly longer hills as we headed into the mountains. The slow pace suited my ability. The spinning classes I did as preparation definitely paid off. The heat and humidity were challenging! Road conditions were better than expected. The bikes could have been in better condition- the mechanic was great in sorting out issues on the way. Most of the participants missed their various connecting flights arranged by Explore, including us! Arriving at 5am and having to be prepared to cycle at 8.30am wasn’t fun! Explore really need to consider this as I think it’s a regular occurrence!
The accommodation was good although WiFi was limited at 2 locations. The food varied from excellent to poor for quantity and choice. Be aware that there is a 3,800 rupee compulsory payment that is not mentioned in the trip notes for snacks and tips. In the case of my trip the snacks consisted of a couple bananas, a couple oranges, a coconut drink, a lime soda and a few bite size snacks which would not have accounted for 200-300 rupees.
