Easy walking holiday through Spain and Portugal wine regions
Visits to culturally rich historic towns and villages
Explore Madrid, Segovia and Porto
Craving the ideal blend of fine wine, timeless landscapes, and leisurely exploration? The Walks and Wine Tasting in Spain and Portugal tour sweeps you from Madrid to Porto over 12 relaxed days, designed for experienced travelers who savor culture at a gentle pace.
Wander the UNESCO-listed streets of Segovia, bask in the natural beauty of Guadarrama National Park, and meander through the vineyard-laced Ribera del Duero region. As you cross into Portugal, board a scenic train through the Douro Valley, famed for its terraced slopes and world-class wines, before arriving in Porto, a riverside gem renowned for its port wine.
Throughout this trip, you’ll enjoy stays in charming medieval towns, sample regional vintages, and explore national parks—balancing countryside walks with urban delights. Hotels, transport, and meals are all thoughtfully included, so you can focus on soaking up every moment.
This tour package’s standout feature is its seamless blend of wine-tasting experiences and picturesque rural walks, offering a feast for the senses in two of Europe’s most storied regions. For those who appreciate unhurried journeys laced with flavor and history, this is the perfect getaway.
Overall an excellent holiday. Perhaps a little expensive to say good value. Rocio is a great leader and managed the group well diffusing the occasional issue. Rather than a cultural tour of Madrid a food and wine tour would be better Would have preferred circular or linear walks rather than out the two out and back walks. In particular the first walk could be linear if the coach was able to get to a car park near the end of the walk
A really well paced holiday. Plenty to do and the walking pace was gentle and very enjoyable. I got to see parts of Spain and Portugal that I wouldn’t normally visit and taste quality wines that aren’t generally available in the UK. I would recommend this holiday to anyone who enjoys their food and wine.
A nicely balanced & well paced holiday. Beautiful scenery, medieval Spanish towns & villages, good food & wine with plenty of exercise in the sun. What's not to like!
Overall excellent package . Some walks were more than “leisurely “ and needed more breaks.
I enjoyed the walks in the national Parks very much. The mini coaches drove us around, this was very confortable. The trip in the local train alongside the Douro river is a must! The only downside was the food, apart from breakfast, few is planned in advance, you end up having no lunch or a very late dinner..
The itinerary was very well put together. I enjoyed the contrast between the cities and the rural villages/National Parks. The walks were lovely and I particularly liked the walk to the village of Pinilla with the Duoro river below us. The wine tastings were good, although I enjoyed the tastings at the small local bodegas better than the tasting at Protos. The tour leader, Magdalena, was very good - she kept the group well informed and was also keen to receive feedback from the group on what worked well and what could be improved. I highly recommend this trip.
The trip was amazing. Our guide, Magdalena, made sure everyone was taken care of and that we had all the information needed, even though the Explore App provided excellent info about the itinerary. She went out of her way on more than one occasion to accommodate requests from the group. The places we visited were interesting and enjoyable and it felt like we got to see the places the locals would go to. And the walking views were fantastic. There was a good balance between tour time and down/free time.
I loved the trip! It was a great Experience and I would use Explore again! Magdalena was the best! Everything went very smoothly! Magdalena was very knowledgeable. Her recommendations enhanced our experience! I would only eliminate the Protos tasting. The smaller more intimate tastings were a lot of fun and I feel gave us a more real experience!
The trip was excellent. Magdalena, our guide was exceptionally well organised, helpful and friendly. The vehicle we travelled in from Madrid was not roadworthy. The windscreen was cracked but worse than that, it emitted dangerous fumes that made me cough constantly, triggered my asthma and affected my breathing. I am extremely angry we had to travel in such a dangerous vehicle and that it affected my health. The next vehicle with Oscar was excellent, but it took me a number of weeks to recover from the poisonous fumes.
Our Tour leader Magdalena was exceptional! She went above and beyond finding additional wine tastings and local restaurants to try! Her efforts made the trip extra special!
The best tour we have ever been on. Magdalena was a fantastic guide! She was extremely well prepared and organised, knowledgeable and lots of fun. Magdalena went out of her way to find new experiences that she thought the group would enjoy. We walked to places that we would never have found by ourselves and stayed in villages that were off the tourist track. The hotels were clean and comfortable. We are already looking for other walks run by Explore World and preferably led by Magdalena. We have already recommended this tour to many people we have met since we finished the walking tour.
