This 18-day guided tour takes you from Barcelona to Madrid — stopping at every charming town in between. Walk the narrow lanes of Barcelona’s Gothic Quarter with a Local Expert, weaving your way to the lively Las Ramblas, where street performers put on shows. Paella was created in Valencia, and you will indulge in the savoury rice dish after a private demonstration from a local chef. Stomp your feet in Seville during a flamenco dance lesson, then relax as the professionals put on a private show for you and your fellow travellers. Walk across the 2,000-year-old Roman bridge in Cordoba, then meet a local historian at the city’s 8th Century mosque with a Christian cathedral inside it. In Madrid, walk with a Local Expert through the city’s Old Quarter to the Prado Museum, where an art historian will reveal the stories behind the masterpieces of artists such as Goya and Titian.
Many of optional experiences should have been included as his was a Spanish Heritage tour . This may have made the tour a little more expensive but the experiences we’re important.
Exceptional locations and cities in both the north and the south of Spain. Wonderful local tour guides, personable and very knowledgeable on the specific location. However, the structure and switch of Tour Director during mid tour (50% completed) was inefficient and badly planned. This was in effect, two (2) tours placed together and sequential which caused inefficiency during the tour. This should have been communicated to all the Spanish Heritage tour travelers much, much more clearly. Two SEPARATE hotels during the three days in Madrid was badly planned and structured increasing the pace, stress and frustration among many of the travelers who had signed up for the Spanish Heritage Tour. Mostly good and wonderfull, but badly planned and structured by the administration of Insight Vacation. Respectfully.
This 18 day tour was a combination of two 9 day tours which covered some of the same places. Quite a misrepresentation of an 28 day tour. I would like some sort of response. Thank you.
Great trip. Saw and learned a lot. Tour directors were very knowledgeable and helpful.
If you choose to do all of the 'optionals' then you won't miss out on anything, but you will put on a lot of miles! Wear good supportive walking shoes. You are constantly 'on the go'. Be mindful, if you do not do any optionals, then you won't see anything unless you are pro-active and feel comfortable doing things on your own. Keep in mind when figuring the cost of this tour, that the optionals will cost you extra, as well as, all lunches and many of the dinners.
Insight cannot be trusted to deliver what it claims it will. At the commencement of our tour we were to see the inside of Sagrada Familia but Insight failed to buy the necessary tickets. As a result 28 of our initial group who were only doing the southern part of the tour missed out. While I was lucky enough to see it as part of the Northern component of the tour what has happened has shown that Insight cannot be relied on to access premier attractions despite promising to do so on advertising.
It was a great tour and our guide Maria Diaz was outstanding!! This tour is actually 2 separate tours which we didn’t know when we booked. This led to some duplication and too much added free time for the Heritage tour group. That is my main complaint regarding the Spanish Heritage tour (aka Highlights of Spain and Nortgern Spain)
The tour was sold as a single unit, one group of clients for the entire trip. The trip was in fact two trips with two distinct group of people of differing demographics with days lost in the middle with no mixing of the those continuing on from the fist tour and those on the second Tour until day two. The tour Director did her best at the transition, however it was extremely difficult to manage those departing, those staying and those joining at the same time. The last two days were a waste of time in Barcelona, all the sights had been covered in the first tour and the tour director was busy looking after the second tour groups activities.
