For those fascinated by spirituality and art, the 'Shrines of Italy' tour is a pilgrimage through Italy’s most revered religious and architectural landmarks. This 11-day trip, tailored for seniors and experienced travelers, begins and ends in Rome, guiding you through sacred sites in Assisi, the Amalfi Coast & Campania, and beyond.
Reflect at the Basilica of St. Francis, marvel at the Sistine Chapel’s grandeur, and explore ancient Christian catacombs. Attend a Papal audience, and receive a blessing from the Holy Father, making this journey not only a tour but a deeply meaningful experience. Visit the Grotto of Michael the Archangel, the cathedral of Salerno, and the historic abbey of Montecassino.
The standout element of this tour is its rare blend of faith, art, and history—offering an enriching itinerary that connects travelers with Italy’s spiritual heart through exclusive experiences and guided visits to the world’s most inspirational sites.
Least favorite not being able to go to the Sistine Chapel and museum, because I could not take my needed walking cane with me. Meal portions to big. The guide referenced daily meals provided were like Sunday dinner size meals. Hotel Scapolatiello, having to walk up and down the steep hill, after a day of walking in Pompeii. (Unreal for seniors in the heat) Able to attend 1 mass. Not made aware a priest was needed in the group to facilitate the masses. No WIFI on the bus. Free day in Assisi (Florence excursion cancelled). Most favorite the day I couldn't see the Sistine Chapel. Instead of a pilgrim I became a tourist. The brief audience with the Pope driving by, Magical. Learning about unknown Saints, St. Anthony, St. Scholastica, St. Benedict, St. Pio, and St. Mark. Discovering Gelato, YUM!
The shrines, the accommodations , our guide, the weather were all wonderful. One of my favorite places was San Giovanni Rotundo.
The Shrines of Italy was an amazing experience! It’s full of rich histories ~ cultures, and the architectural elements/designs, beautiful landscapes at Tuscany, and all the surrounding natures were truly remarkable!!! The Highlights were in Vatican City ~ Rome, seeing Pope Leo XIV at his Papal Audience and as well all the Holy Churches, The Sistine Chapel, all were an absolute super creative!!! Truly a Blessings….
This tour was made EXCEPTIONAL by our Tour Manager, Flavio Nicoletti- his knowledge, personality, experience and professionalism were exceeding all expectations! He knew the questions we would have ahead of time, he arranged for us to have daily mass at chapels withing significant cathedrals, he made alternative options available for those not going on each tour. The value added to this experience by virtue of Flavio is immeasurable, and he should be well rewarded for his contributions to Collette!
