day 1Join trip in the Italian capital Rome
Our tour starts today in the Italian capital, Rome. With a history spanning over two and a half thousand years, the city is packed with iconic ancient sites, exhilarating architecture and artistic treasures. Its picturesque piazzas, outdoor bars and neighbourhood cafes make for excellent people-watching. Our tour leader plans to meet everyone at the hotel for a welcome meeting today at 5pm and for those that wish, there is the chance to go out for dinner afterwards for your first taste of Roman cuisine. There are no activities planned before the group meeting at 5pm tonight, so you can arrive any time before then. Should you miss the meeting, our tour leader will inform you of any essential information as soon as you catch up. If you'd like an airport transfer today, you'll need to arrive into Rome Fiumicino Airport (FCO) which is around 45 minutes to an hour from the city centre depending on traffic conditions. If your flight arrives earlier in the day, put on a pair of comfortable shoes and head out to explore. Walking is the best way to see Rome. Flicking a coin in the Trevi Fountain and marvelling at the vast domed roof inside the ancient Pantheon are just two things every visitor to the city should experience. If you'd like to visit the Vatican, Rome's most popular attraction, you should book tickets to the museum online in advance at biglietteriamusei.vatican.va. Note the Vatican is closed to visitors on Sunday except the last Sunday of every month when entry is free although it can get very busy. Check the Vatican website (vatican.va) for updated information on opening times. Please note that pre-booked tickets are not required if you just want to visit St Peter's Basilica.

Excellent trip! The mix of structed activities and free time is perfect. The hotels were excellent as were the activities in each location. This is a great trip for those who want some physical activity without that being the main focus. Plenty of time to relax and take in the beautiful scenery!
This could be a great trip. We had rain for a few days so some of the excursion we're cancelled. There was no back up plan with anything else to do. We were left in the hotel with nothing to do. The morning in Napels is absolutely pointless Simona our guide was great
This was a great trip and fun group of travellers. Some of the extras were expensive and options would have been good. I feel the transfer offered to/from the airport should be available pre day 1 and after the final day....the transport was expensive and it is something that should be included as the trip costs a lot. It should not make a different if cusomters decide to arrive early or leave late - they only require one transfer each way.
Our trip to Italy was very good. Our tour guide, Manny, was very informative and looked after us very well. The Amalfi coast is beautiful, and the journey from Maiori to Sorrento was very fun (if not a little hair-raising!). Worth doing the optional trip to Capri and using the chair lift to the top of the island for excellent views.
Mani our tour guide was excellent. there were 14 in the group which I think was an ideal size. Mani kept us all all updated with any changes due to disruptions etc. there was only one hotel in Pompeii which was disappointing with shower screen collapsing but it was only for a one night stay but the location was ideal for exploring. Rome was obviously very busy so I think that travelling the end of September was the best time to go and Explore!
