Why Book With Explore

- Unforgettable experiences You'll see a mix of famous sights and hidden gems that others miss, or don't even know about. As travelers, we want to experience a country, not merely observe it. We'll take you closer to the country, its culture and people, often in unscripted, spontaneous, impossible-to-replicate ways. You'll come home having seen and experienced the country in a way that other travelers might never have. - Expert local guides If you book a guided trip, like one of our small group tours, your guide or tour leader will use their expert insider knowledge and local connections to make the most of unexpected opportunities. You might be invited to watch the sunrise from a lighthouse or to join family Diwali celebrations. They'll be on hand to make sure your trip goes smoothly, taking care of logistics. Our tour leaders are all hand-picked and trained by our experienced team to ensure consistently high standards. - Small groups & private trips Our average group size is just 12 — big enough to meet like-minded people but small enough to get to the heart of a destination. All sorts of people travel on our trips — groups are usually a mix of solos, couples and friends united by an adventurous spirit and a sense of fun. Get in touch to learn more about the group already booked on a particular trip (age range, solos vs couples etc). If you’d prefer a more private experience, we also offer a large range of self-guided trips throughout Europe. - Accommodation We carefully select our accommodation to give you a comfortable night's sleep in the best possible locations. The places we stay are every bit as important as the sights we visit and the things we do. Wherever possible we choose small, local and family-run properties. Occasionally, when we want to get off the beaten tourist trail, we may stay in more basic accommodation. Choices are based on what’s available in the places we want to stay; we choose the accommodation to suit the itinerary, not the other way around.

An excellent opportunity to explore many of the archeological sites in Mexico, Guatemala and Belize under the guidance of our extremely knowledgeable and charismatic tour guide Ana. This is a ‘full on’ tour, with some very long drives, but well worth it. There is a fair amount of walking, as well as climbing at many of the sites, and a good level of fitness is needed, particularly in view of the hot, sunny and humid days that we experienced on many days. We booked our trip to coincide with ‘Day of the dead’ celebrations in Oaxaca, which was an amazing experience. Accommodation generally poor, and not to Explore’s normal standards. All in all, a great 3 week trip.

Madeira is a great walking destination, particularly in late Autumn when the days are pleasantly warm. Like everywhere, the weather is unpredictable these days and we did have a midweek storm which brought high winds and rain, but this only impacted our walk on one day. The itinerary is well planned to give exposure to Madeira's different microclimates and ecosystems. The levadas provide lovely flat walking interludes in an otherwise up or down topography, and I would rate the walks overall as moderate requiring a normal level of fitness. The accommodation is overall comfortable and well located, excepting the hotel in Funchal which was a 30 minutes walk from town. It was however a substitute for the usual hotel which was undergoing renovation. I did also note very good breakfasts everywhere we stayed. Our tour leader was excellent, very supportive and accommodating, and also very knowledgable about the flora and fauna of the island which added extra interest to our walks. We were a group of 15 with people from UK, Channel Islands, US, Canada and The Netherlands, and a friendly and fun group it was too! Overall I would thoroughly recommend this trip for anyone looking for a good week walking in a very picturesque and unique environment.

A superb trip which gave an excellent insight into the culture, peoples and landscapes of Nepal. The trip was excellently guided by an enthusiastic and knowledgeable leader. The experiences were varied and included a number of purpiseful walks taking us through villages and scenes with exceptional views.

Great trip in El Salvador. Beautiful country, amazing volcanoes, scenery and archaeological sites. Friendly people. Felt safe. Hotels were good, comfortable. Tasty food. Excellent tour leader. Dio is very knowledgeable, friendly and kind. I enjoyed the sea turtle activity even though we didn’t do anything, just watch. The hike to the volcano was great, early in the morning is best. I would have liked the hotel in Sal Salvador closer to the historical center and also a visit to the Museum of Anthropology at the end of the trip, after the archaeological sites.

A lot of travelling but always breaks planned in. Worth it to stay three nights in Mole National Park. So much variation with seeing the King of the Ashanti and the people there - so much colour with beautiful Kenti cloth robes and traditional music instruments. We visited weavers and craft workshops and were appalled at the conditions that slaves endured in the coastal castles. I did feel that 16 was too many for the bus and one night we were unable to stay in the planned hotel as they did not have enough free rooms.

This was a great trip taking us from kalkata and the southern mangroves to the hills crossing from Darjeeling to the lovely old kingdom of Sikkin to Buthan and finally in Kathmandu. The contrast between them is striking with mountain tops communities temples ancient fortress and beautiful people. So much history. With countries so close you would expect people and costumes to be similar but this could not be further from the truth. Our tour leader Keran had everything organised to a tee and was great company as well a continuous source of knowledge. Just go, before it all changes forever😂😂

We chose this trip as we had visited Kathmandu in 2011 but had always wanted to get out into the countryside. This trip was a diverse mixture of culture and scenery. We enjoyed revisiting the temples and squares in Kathmandu, but also appreciating the mountains and scenery, especially a Pokhara. The clear views of the mountain ranges were amazing and breathtaking. We enjoyed the Chitwan park and saw lots of birds and rhinos, but unfortunately no tigers, but we didn't really expect to. Our tour guide and the local guides were all great with their knowledge and experience. It was a discovery, thank you

Far Exceeded my expectations. Walking the Remote Coastal Trails in Portugal was an absolutely amazing adventure, with breathtaking views, beautiful beaches, dramatic coastline, sea stacks, arches, and lighthouses galore. This picturesque hike along some of the most spectacular shoreline is a Photographers delight. Our lodging in the small town of Sagress, for the week, was sublime. Quaint coffee shops, excellent dinning options, several beaches, a fishing port and market, and historical fort/museum made for the perfect location. Our hotel, Casa Azul, was quaint, with very spacious well decorated rooms. Their hearty delicious breakfast saw us well prepared for each days activity. Ester is an Exceptional Guide. Very professional, knowledgeable, adaptable, and informative; she provided daily hiking briefings, detailing the terrain, millage, conditions, pointing out the best beaches, vantage points, hidden gems and most importantly… coffee stops. She ensured we were all ready for our daily treks by monitoring our physical and mental state throughout the week. Her light smile masked her real strength in managing/coordination our trip, expertise in hiking and climbing, knowledge of the area, geographical formations, historical accounts of the areas, and multiple languages; all provided indispensable as a guide. Her easy demeanour, made her a delight to all hikers and people we encountered including other tourists, local business, and even shepherds in the field. Adaptable; she adjusted our starting location due to hazardous condition on a trail, providing for our safety. Storytelling; while having our picnic lunch in a narrow ravine out of the wind, Ester retold an adventure, both humours and nerve-racking attempt, to climb an ice mountain. Ester displayed a genuine passion for her life and role as a guide..

One of the best holidays I have been on with Explore. The guide was excellent - it was a big group and he managed everyone incredibly well. He was very knowledgeable, attentive and very proud of his country. If anyone had a suggestion or something they wanted included, he would make it happen. It would be great if Explore could offer a wider range of activity holidays to Nepal. Perhaps a wildlife/cultural tour? I would highly recommend this tour.

Such a great trip, from major cities to nature at its awesome best. Loved the tango and steaks in Buenos Aires; the incredible Iguazu Falls, fantastic to see, and feel, from both sides; pretty Paraty’s cobbled streets; relaxing Isla Grande; and the vibes and sights of Rio…..well worth adding on an extra couple of nights at the end. Felt perfectly safe everywhere, taking sensible precautions…..top tip, use Uber, cheap and readily available
