Hiking in the Dolomites

This week in the Dolomites was truly amazing, thanks to our highly professional, expert guide. She made sure her daily program optimised the weather, and always looked out for our safety and enjoyment. She was fun, interesting and informative. Unfortunately, there were aspects of the company's organisation that made planning difficult, but these were eventually resolved. The other issue was that vegetarians are definitely not well catered for. There doesn't seem to be any understanding of the need for adequate protein, and often the contrast between the vegetarian and carnivore options were stark. Explore needs to work with the hotel to ensure adequate vegetarian main meals - i.e., with good protein.

Loved my hiking trip in the Dolomites. Jasmine our guide was great. She adapted the itinerary to suit the weather forecast and managed the different needs of the group. The scenery is stunning, the walks were perfect. Travel was trouble free. Accommodation was good and the food was plentiful. Loved the village of Dobbiacco. Would recommend this trip

Hiking in The Dolomites was my first trip with Explore and exceeded all expectations. The organisation during the trip was faultless, with a clear itinerary for each day and transport tickets and packed lunches organised by our guide Jasmin. The group members were great, with people from all over the world and an age range of 19 to 70+. Our guide Jasmin was outstanding. I would definitely look at other trips she is guiding and consider booking. She looked after every one of us so well and you could tell that she was genuinely passionate about the areas we visited.

The scenery was unique and striking, even on the way to Dobbiaco from Venice airport. Pinnacles, lakes and crags. Our leader Jasmine made the most of the weather to complete almost the whole programme as written, just sensibly adapting to the one wet day. The hotel gave us excellent breakfasts and dinners (especially for omnivores). On the free day Brunico proved attractive with a mountain people's museum in the castle. A couple of walks were busy, but not spoilt.

The Dolomites are stunning. The hikes are beautiful. Our guide was very knowledgeable, friendly and adapted the programme to suit the weather. We’ve had an amazing week. Thankyou

This was an absolutely amazing trip The scenery is stunning, the food was amazing and our accommodations were very nice. Our guide Denis earned and deserves way more stars than the max of five . Although Denis cannot be given credit for the natural beauty of the Dolomites . He can be given credit for enhancing their beauty by giving us a detailed explanation of the history, geology , flora and fauna and culture of the area. Under Denis 's tutelage we gained far more knowledge and had a much more enjoyable time than we would have if we had just hiked and visited the area on on own. We hope to do another trip with Denis in the future, we almost don't even care where it goes.

Excellent "adventure", amazing sceneary. Accommodation and meals were fantastic and guide was really great. Would highly recommend. Definitely need a good level of fitness.

Our leader, Denis, was fantastic. He was so knowledgeable, funny, and caring. He told the best stories about the history and culture of the Dolomites. Our group had various abilities, and he offered options so everyone had a great trip.

Dennis is a first-rate guide: knowledgeable, flexible, enthusiastic, humorous, and a really good teacher. The 5 days of hiking we did brought us into different kinds of terrain and landscapes in the Dolomites—this variety was great. The Tschertschenthaler (did I spell that right?) was a strong choice for our hotel: family run, good food (and a lot of it), really clean, central. The whole week was a wonderful experience!

This was my 1st trip with Explore and it certainly won't be my last! Itinerary was terrific. Our guide, Denis, was excellent. I've done many hiking trips and Denis was one of the best guides I've ever had. Good value. Very nice people on the trip.

The trekking was challenging but very enjoyable in stunning locales, aided by an excellent mountain guide, who ensured the safety and cohesiveness of such a large group (sixteen).

The mountainous areas of the dolomites are extraordinary beautiful and dramatic and the views change constantly with the clouds and weather. The dolomite are not a place to be overlooked. The local people are very friendly and welcoming and the local food is very tasty. The explore leader went above and beyond what was expected. His knowledge of the environment, wildlife geology and history of local area of the Dolomites was second to none. The Explore leader we had on this trip could speak several languages from Italian to German, Spanish and English Which made it very easy for us to enjoy our walks in the mountain s. Such a beautiful, beautiful place.

Excellent week away

Hiking the Dolomites with Explore was amazing. Eduardo our tour leader guided us, cared for us and encouraged us when the going got tough. Each day was another spectacular hike and those at home were amazed at the photos. Make sure you are well prepared. This is not a beginner's hike, but distances each day are manageable and enjoyable for those who have put in the prep. Hiking poles recommended.

This is a great trip - the scenery was stunning and the walking enjoyable and varied. The Hotel was very good, comfortable room, swimming pool, very good food and plenty of it. The staff were very helpful and worked hard. Dobbiaco is a good base with mountain views. Our guide Jasmin was excellent - she was very organised and knowledgeable and planned walks around the weather and she provided a great picnic lunch each day. A lovely part of the world.

The hiking and views were excellent. There were a couple of days with rain forecasted and the tour leader, Jasmin, did an exemplary job of rearranging the hikes and day off to maximize the experience for us. Her knowledge of the area added greatly to our enjoyment while hiking and in making arrangements for travel and non-hiking activities. The hiking abilities of the group were varied and Jasmin made sure everyone was safe and accounted for. The group was varied in age and hiking abilities but melded well and worked to make it a very positive experience. A definite two thumbs up for the Dolomites tour.

I had a great time on this trip. The tour leader Jasmin had great knowledge and experience of the mountains. The days were changed round to suit the weather to our advantage. On the free day I highly recommend doing the 50KM bike ride to Austria, the views were beautiful. Overall a great trip, great views and wonderful hikes

Our guide led us through some unforgettable hikes, always making sure the group felt safe, motivated, and inspired by the stunning surroundings. Their deep knowledge of the region really enhanced the trip, and the local recommendations—whether for scenic spots, food, or hidden gems—were spot on. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a stress-free, well-organized, and genuinely enriching adventure in the Dolomites!

Jasmin the tour leader was excellent

I have done many trips with Explore but this one has to be up there in the top three. The scenery is stunning, a truly beautiful part of Italy. The hikes are manageable for people who are reasonably fit and used to walking, some challenging ascents but generally as described in the trip notes and I would agree that "moderate" is a good rating. Accommodation is first class with a very welcome opportunity to relax in the pool and spa after hiking all day, whilst looking forward to a five-course dinner! The group bonded well and supported each other on the walks. Nigel Lewis is an exemplary guide and ensured that all participants were treated mindfully and with respect. He has the ability to make people feel safe and supported whilst completing the hikes, is patient and focused on ensuring that everyone in the group has a good experience. One piece of advice - this hike needs trekking poles if you have dodgy knees....
