Meander through ancient Matera’s Sassi quarter, marvel at the trulli houses in the Itria Valley, and witness traditional cheese, bread, and olive oil production. Along the way, savor tastings and even try your hand at making orecchiette pasta. Designed for experienced travelers who appreciate a slower pace, the tour’s highlight is its blend of gentle walks and immersive food experiences—ensuring you savor both landscape and flavor at every turn.

day 1Join trip in Altamura, tasting dinner

Our tour starts today in Altamura, a pretty town with a walled old quarter of flagstone streets and white-washed buildings, located on Puglia's sparsely populated limestone Murge Plateau.
Our tour leader plans to meet everyone in the hotel reception at 6pm for a welcome meeting. Afterwards, our journey of culinary discovery commences with an included dinner of regional dishes at the popular Tre Archi restaurant. Our husband-and-wife hosts, Nina and Peppino, serve up a feast of home-grown vegetables and other locally sourced produce in an amazing array of traditional Puglian antipasti appetisers.
There are no other activities planned today. If you'd like an airport transfer today, you'll need to arrive into Bari International Airport - Karol Wojtyla (BRI), which is around a 50-minute drive from Altamura. If you miss the welcome meeting, your tour leader will inform you of any essential information as soon as you catch up.

A taste of Italy is an excellent tour. The food is delicious, the walking is enjoyable , the company fun and the tour keader, Massimo went above and beyond to ensure we all had a great time. i went on the last trip in June and the weather, at times, was a bit too hot for walking but it also poured with rain one day. The hotels were very good, especially in Matera. I enjoyed all of the varied things we saw and did and would happily recommend it.

A really varied range of experiences in a historic and beautiful part of Italy. Delicious food and quality wines throughout and amazing local bread particularly in Altamura. Accommodation ideally located in the central old quarters of each town.

Massimo was a great leader, organised, friendly, helpful, approachable. The trip had a good balance of food (watch your waistlines!) and walking.

Fantastic trip! Fabio was a great leader. He took us to restaurants outside of the tourist areas and seemed to know everyone! The pasta making, held in a local restaurant was done really well and I will definitely have a go at home. There was a lot to do and see on this holiday, and Fabio adapted it where necessary. There were 9 in the group and we all got on so well that we are intending to do another food related trip next year together.
