day 1Join trip in Lima

Our trip starts today in Lima, Peru's capital, which was founded in 1535 AD by the Spanish conquistador Francisco Pizarro. The modern cosmopolitan city is littered with reminders of its colonial and pre-Hispanic past, particularly in the historical centre. Located on the shores of the Pacific Ocean, you can easily escape the busy traffic of the city for a little calm on nearby coastal walking paths. For those arriving in time, our tour leader plans to meet you in the hotel reception at 7.30pm for a welcome meeting and for those that wish, there'll be the chance to go out for dinner. There are no other activities planned today, so you're free to arrive in Lima at any time. If you'd like an airport transfer today, you'll need to arrive into Lima's Jorge Chavez International Airport (LIM) which is approximately a one-hour drive from our hotel. Should you miss the welcome meeting, your tour leader will inform you of any essential information as soon as you catch up. If your flight arrives earlier in the day, you might like to take an independent stroll along the coastal path to Miraflores and through the bohemian district of Barranco. Alternatively, you could visit the Larco Museum for an introduction to Peru's ancient history. The city is also gaining a reputation as a culinary centre, so why not try some ceviche (fish marinated in citrus juices) or sip on a Pisco sour?

I had a wonderful adventure in Peru . Our lovely group saw interesting and exciting things every day. The food and accommodation were excellent and the transport was spacious and comfortable. The experience was greatly enhanced by the humour and patience of our excellent tour leader Julio Cezar Yabar - we all appreciated his hard work and professionalism. A highlight for me was seeing condors in Colca Canyon. Thank you Explore . I will travel with you again

The itinerary was very good and included a lot of different and interesting locations concerning Inca history. The route was well thought out with time to acclimatise to the altitude at Araquipa, befor continuing ro the higher levels of Colca Valley , Puna and Lake Titicacca. We felt the impact of the altirude on some of the walks, but the guides were careful to make rwgular stops and take a pace that suited all the group. Hotels and food was excellent throughout the trip. This was definitely a moderate to high paced trip , with early starts to see many places, although the benefit was often an early night! I would definitely recommend this tripto those who are moderately fit ( walking) and like exploring .

This was an amazing experience from start to finish. Darwin our tour leader was excellent and made sure the group got the most out of the trip. Peru is a colourful and vibrant country with fantastic scenery, history and culture. Special highlights included watching condors soar around the colca canyon, along with our time on Taquile Island and of course Machupicchu.
