I loved this trip – I learned so much about the Balkans and felt really immersed in the countries and local cultures. The accommodation, food and activities were brilliant but the highlight was our expert Trip Manager who ensured everything ran smoothly!
I loved the cities we went to, they were INCREDIBLE, but the trip started off with a LONG coach ride on Day 1. After having been on a 12 hour flight the day before, that’s the last thing I needed. Yes, I booked the trip knowing there were heavy road trips involved, but I regretted it almost immediately. Also having to use different currencies was frustrating. Again, I know I booked it, but I REALLY did not know what I had booked. I will say that Live, the tour manager was so sweet and made the tour as fun and interesting as she could. Overall it was my least favorite of the 3 contiki trips I’ve taken, but not because of the locations.
Loved it. Bosnia in particular is a hidden gem in Europe.
The trip was such a wonderful experience and a great way to go to a wide variety of countries in very little time. All of the destinations were hidden gems with Mostar and Tirana being some of the most unique places I’ve ever seen! The trip was extremely fast paced with lots of border crossings so there wasn’t as much time in certain places but this is understandable given the itinerary. The people of the Balkans are so wonderful and it was great to learn their history and culture.
What a great trip! All of the places we visited had great food, fantastic culture and lots of goodies to buy.
Tirana: Take an orientation around the rainbow-coloured Albanian capital with your Contiki gang. Familiarise yourself with the landmarks and best places to grab a coffee.
Tirana: Wanna dive into Albania’s past? Then you need visit Bunk’Art – a massive underground bunker turned museum. It was once built to protect leaders from nuclear attacks. And now it tells the story of Albania’s communist era with art, history (and even a few surprises!). Explore eerie tunnels, snap some pics, and experience a slice of Cold War history you won’t find anywhere else.
Mostar: See this epic piece of Ottoman architecture, which was destroyed by war in 1993 and then rebuilt.
Sarajevo: See the sights of the Bosnian capital and get up to speed on 500 years of history, from the Ottomans to the present day.
Belgrade: Ramble around the Serbian capital. It’s brimming with culture and history for you to soak up.
There's so much to fit in with this 8-day adventure around 6 incredible Balkan countries. Take in the Dalmatian Coastline as we head to Montenegro, visit some iconic sights in Albania, check out the place where WWI began and explore the architecture in Belgrade.
