It’s really difficult to say whether I’d recommend the NWP trip. Our trip was extraordinary in terms of weather, sea and animal sightings. You couldn’t get better. Narwhals, beluga and musk-ox. And 8 polar bears including mother with two cubs. The trip that went from east to west from Greenland saw much less than we did and believe it or not couldn’t get into Ilulissat as too much ice - a Greenland highlight. 7 ships made it into Pond Inlet this season - Sylvia Earl twice and Greg twice. So even today the NWP is a serious challenge.

This tour hit all of the best locations and had excellent guides! The layovers were timed perfectly and the food was delicious, although expensive at times. The rooms were quite comfortable and mostly spacious. Only ran out of hot water once. All in all a great trip!

Carl our leader demonstrated a high level of knowledge about every location we visited. He drove us safely over I guess 3000 miles; recommended superb restaurants; and was an open friendly chap.

Anyone considering going on this trip needs to think about why they are going. If it is for wildlife eg. birds, they need to investigate the best time of the year to go, taking migration into account etc. I had a wonderful time on this trip. Whilst the wildlife were not particularly co-operative, or the weather, the Expedition Team did their best at all times to fulfil the itinerary and give us the best opportunity to see the expected wild life. Whilst many whales were missing, we had the unusual bonus of seeing six Polar Bears and 17 Narwhals! You win some, you lose some! The M/V Greg Mortimer is an impressive ship, keeping the rocking and rolling across Baffin Bay, to a minimum. Inside it is extremely comfortable, all the 'hotel' staff are friendly and very professional. The rooms were kept spotless and serviced twice a day. There was a very large choice of good food at all meals. Two meals are buffet and the evening dinner, a served meal. The lectures on board, given by members of the Expedition Team and some guest lecturers, were linked to the programme and additional ones added where particular interest was shown by passengers. They were of a high standard. I am very happy to recommend this trip to those who are prepared to be flexible, both with the itinerary and daily programme. One day we started on Plan A and ended on Plan E thanks to the weather! It should not be considered as a cruise but a truly exploratory trip, getting into zodiacs a couple of times a day to go and get close up views of icebergs, bird nesting cliffs, glaciers: anything that may be of interest.

For my first contiki, I can’t imagine it having been better. The guides service was impeccable, from his local knowledge to his friendliness he absolutely nailed it every turn. The trip was cram packed with such an amazing itinerary and it all worked so well, there were no hiccups. Truely a trip of a lifetime!

We have traveled with Trafalgar several times but this trip was the best of all. The places in Canada were spot on - magnificent from Lake Maligne to the Glacier Field and more. Our fabulous Guide, supplied us with the wonderful information for each stop and more as we road on the bus. He was so learned on the areas visited and shared this info with us. Our driver, kept us on schedule doing a great job. This was the BEST tour of the many we've taken EVER. A real delight that we will remember for a long time.

Planning tips for solo travelers to Canada

Safest destinations in Canada for single travelers

Considered one of the safest and most inclusive destinations globally, Canada is ideal for solo travelers, including women and individuals from marginalized communities. Major cities like Vancouver and Toronto stand out for their cultural diversity, progressive attitudes, and welcoming atmosphere. Vancouver’s downtown neighborhoods, including Gastown and Yaletown, provide secure, pedestrian-friendly streets alongside LGBTQ+-friendly establishments and inviting cafés. Toronto’s vibrant Church-Wellesley Village celebrates inclusivity and features lively nightlife, and community-focused spaces, making it a reassuring choice for first-time visitors traveling solo.

For travelers preferring quieter settings, towns like Banff and Jasper offer a comforting blend of safety, central accommodations, and easily walkable downtown areas. English-French bilingual cities such as Montreal and Quebec City minimize language concerns, with locals eager to assist in either language. Overall, Canada's combination of welcoming culture, accessible infrastructure, and proactive public safety measures guarantees stress-free exploration for solo adventurers.

Cost of traveling to Canada alone

Considered a fairly affordable travel destination, a holiday to Canada is available at a range of budget options, even for single travelers. On average, budget travelers spend around USD 70 per day, covering hostel accommodations, meals, and public transportation. Bookmundi's solo holidays to Canada start from around USD 150 per day, covering accommodations, select meals, and key activities. Choosing a private room typically involves an additional single supplement, with fees varying depending on the specific tour and accommodation chosen. Please note that services or amenities not included in the package are the traveler's responsibility, so it's wise to budget for these extra personal expenses.
