In one word? Transformative. I visited sights and had experiences that I would struggle to find anywhere else. The trip was impeccably organised from start to finish and I had so much fun along the way.
The most incredible trip travelling up the Amazon and its tributaries. So many incredible experiences from the river beaches of the Tapajos and buffalo farms of Marajó to soaking up local life from a hammock on the public boat to Santarém. That boat, though basic, really gave us the chance to travel the Amazon as locals do and the trip is all the better for it. Our three nights on the Rio ***** sleeping in hammocks was wonderful - the crew and our local guide Herman were exceptional. Finally our tour leaders Blanca and Vitor were brilliant - funny, engaged, full of local knowledge.l and made sure I didn’t fall in the Amazon getting on and off boats.
It was a privalege to visit this part of the world with international tourism in its infancy. With the exception of one British and one German couple travelling solo no other European tourists were met during our entire, tranquil voyage. Travelling to the Amazon basin during the dry season proffered jaw dropping spendours and I had not previously anticipated mile upon mile of deserted sandy beaches. The itineray for this trip felt perfect with time spent exploring Belem before setting off down river. Three nights aboard both a public and private boat offered very differing experiences. The public boat, in particular, provided insight into how locals travel from one Amazonian city to another even if, at times, I felt slightly uncomfortable and elitist sleeping in one of the few cabins on board. Staff on board our private boat, particularly the two catering staff, were amazing catering for my vegetarian requirements. Particular highlights for me were: the two nights spent at Pousada Ventania, Marajo Island; the late afternoon and evening, whilst aboard our private boat, small boat trips exploring remote river banks for bird and animal life, discovering the evening habitats of caiman and, meeting local indiginous communities. Marajo was pure paradise and the sort of island I would counjure up if appearing on Desert Island Discs! The only downside of this trip was that Hotel Louca, Belem offered the worst hotel evening meals I have ever eaten and this was a pity as I stayed here for four nights at the outset of the trip. All in all one of Explore!'s best trips and one which will be hard to beat in the future.
I loved the whole itinerary, exactly what i wanted to do as i have always wanted to come back to Pucon in Chile and climb the volcano, also to go to Iguassu falls and to see christ redeemer! It had exceeded my expectations. I loved every second of the tour.
4th Tour, 4th Amazing Adventure! I've been to Egypt, South Africa, GBTOUR, and the latest was Brazil/Iguazu. Expat caters to the exact type of traveler that I am. I want to see as much of the world as I'm able to and experience the local culture at a reasonable price. I'm not looking for luxurious hotels. That's not where I want to spend my time. I just want hotels that are clean, comfortable, in convenient locations, and safe; and that's what they deliver. Their tour guides are also very knowledgeable and personable! They really help to make the tour enjoyable. This trip started in Rio de Janiero then went to Paraty and Sao Paulo. From there we flew to Foz do Iguacu. A lot of sightseeing and some great dinners were included, plus there were optional tours. I went on most of them. Some of them seemed a bit expensive at first glance, but I think they were worth every dollar that I spent. It's also nice to not have to worry about making the arrangements or to wonder if the company I just paid money to is reputable. I saw everything that I wanted to see on this trip plus a lot of other things that I didn't even know I would enjoy so much. I almost always travel solo and have met some of the nicest people, of all ages, on Expat Explore tours. The majority are experienced travelers whose idea of travel is similar to mine. I've even kept in touch with a few of the people from each trip. I love Expat Explore's tours and highly recommend them.
Truly amazing! It has been my dream to travel to South America and after many cancelled plans due to covid, it completely exceeded my expectations. Every day of the tour was packed full of once in a lifetime activities. I've travelled to a few countries now and this was definitely my best trip so far. Our tour leader Zema did an excellent job at showing us an authentic insight into Brazilian and Argentinian culture. He was not only a good tour guide but also became a good friend. The activities were great, the food was great and the drinks were great. I would also like to give a shout out to Antonio and his family. He was a great tour guide and the dinner at his family house was one of the highlights of my trip (and most of us said this was also the best food we had in Brazil too!). Making our own caipirinhas and dancing was the perfect way to end the Brazilian part of our journey. We had quite a diverse group with many different interests and needs, and Zema did a brilliant job of keeping everyone safe and happy. I have attached some videos I made to capture our trip. I would highly suggest booking the Argentinian Falls and the Carnival Experience optional trips.
