The entire experience was terrific ... the itinerary was well-paced and exciting, Tuscany is beautiful and the food was awesome, and best of all our guide AJ was the "star of the show" who made the trip really educational and memorable.
I enjoyed the walking and wine tour. Most of the hotels we stayed in were clean, comfortable and walking distance from small towns. Our guide was well versed in the trees, flowers, and crops that we saw on our hikes. The arrangements for dinners, wine tastings, and transportation were taken care of by our guide and well coordinated. I particularly liked the balance between time with the group and free time at the end of the day. The only issue we had was on one of our hikes we were supposed to be able to refill our water bottles at the halfway point, however the bar was not open. It was a very hot day and 3 out of 5 of us, including the guide, ran out of water. We ended up having to cut the hike short.
Excellent trip and very good guide in AJ. Only negative was hotel in Florence. Good location (change from original hotel) but was tired and cleanliness could have been better. Very cramped solo room 🙁 Highlights were Pienza and Castellina in Chianti. Great hotels, beautiful walks and really good food and wine. 😀
An excellent Tuscan holiday, packing a lot in, including Pisa, Siena and Florence, along with some excellent walking and wine, of course. Highlights for us were staying in the beautiful hill top town of Pienza, wine tasting and lunch at Castello la Leccia and fantastic views wherever we looked. Our group was very well looked after throughout by our guide, who took everything in his stride. There was a train strike on our departure day, but we were provided with a taxi transfer back to the airport, so no worries. Another great experience with Explore!
Gorgeous scenery! Very special area. I absolutely loved the towns on sites on the tour! Entire trip was good. Gionata a fabulous guide and very conscientious. He helped me in so many ways, very personable and knowledgeable.
Want to explore Tuscany without a rushed itinerary? Want a small group? Want to hike to wineries and hill towns? Stay in interesting hotels that are hundreds of years old? A wine and food buff? Then this is for you. I had a great time on this trip. Had a full day in Sienna and a nice orientation tour of Florence (I spent a few extra days) Plus to get to visit lesser known towns that the big companies overlook. My favorite was Pienza. A nice little town that also had my favorite hotel and great places to eat. And yes, we tasted wonderful Italian wines, as well as the best cold cuts and cheeses I’ve ever tasted. And did I also mention hiking to wineries and hill towns? Wonderful sights, with spectacular views. One hike it rained towards the end, but that didn’t dampen our spirits.
A well paced trip with an excellent guide, I really enjoyed it, despite the covid rules.
