Itinerary

Journey across Portugal, Spain and Morocco on this 18 day tour from Porto to Madrid. Admire Porto’s historic riverside charm and Coimbra’s university heritage before heading south through Lisbon’s grand avenues and on to the vibrant heart of Andalusia. Cross the Strait of Gibraltar to uncover Morocco’s imperial cities including Fes, Marrakesh and Rabat, alive with medinas, palaces and centuries of tradition. Return to Spain for the splendour of Granada’s Alhambra, the medieval treasures of Toledo and the lively streets of Madrid.

day 1 - Arrival in Porto

Once you have arrived in Porto, you will be met and transferred to the hotel for check-in. You will then have the rest of the day at leisure to explore Porto, grab a meal, or relax.

Please note: This tour is bilingual and will be conducted in Spanish as well as in English.

day 2 - Exploring Porto

Today, make your way to the meeting point at 7:30 am, where we begin our exploration of Porto, a city recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

We enjoy a panoramic tour that takes us past some of the city’s most remarkable landmarks, including the Cathedral, the impressive former Stock Exchange building, and the beautifully adorned Church of St Clara.

We end the day with a visit to a traditional wine cellar, where we have the opportunity to sample Porto’s world-famous Port wine.

day 3 - Porto to Coimbra

Porto - Coimbra. We depart from Porto and travel south to Coimbra, a city known for its rich history and academic tradition. Home to one of Europe’s oldest universities, Coimbra has long been a centre of learning and culture.

On arrival, we explore the old town and university area, where fine architecture and views over the River Mondego capture the city’s charm. Coimbra is also the birthplace of Fado, Portugal’s soulful traditional music.

We enjoy lunch together before the afternoon is yours to explore at leisure. You may wish to stroll through the historic streets, visit the university library, or relax at a café by the river.

day 4 - Fatima & Lisbon

Coimbra - Fatima - Lisbon. Today, we travel to Fatima, one of the most important pilgrimage centres in Portugal. On arrival, you have free time to visit the Shrine, a place of peace and reflection that attracts pilgrims from around the world.

We then continue to Lisbon, the country’s capital, beautifully situated at the mouth of the Tagus River. After settling in, the evening is yours to relax or join an optional night tour to experience a Fado performance, where you can enjoy the soulful songs and music that are such an essential part of Portuguese culture.

day 5 - Exploring Lisbon

This morning, we enjoy a panoramic sightseeing tour of Lisbon, a beautiful city set at the mouth of the Tagus River. We begin at Edward VII Park, taking in its sweeping hilltop views, before continuing to Rossio Square, Liberdade Avenue, and the charming Madragoa District, known as the birthplace of Fado, Portugal’s traditional music.

We then visit the Belém District, home to some of Lisbon’s most iconic landmarks, including the Belém Tower, the Monument to the Discoveries, and the magnificent Jerónimos Monastery.

The afternoon is free for you to explore at leisure. You may wish to join an optional excursion to Sintra, Cascais, and Estoril, or simply enjoy more time discovering Lisbon’s lively streets and cafés at your own pace.

day 6 - Merida & Seville

Lisbon (Portugal) - Merida (Seville) - Seville. After breakfast, we travel towards the Spanish border and arrive in Merida. You have free time to explore its remarkable archaeological site, home to the Roman Theatre and Amphitheatre, both recognised as UNESCO World Heritage landmarks.

Lunch is at your leisure before we continue along the historic Silver Route towards Andalusia. We arrive in Seville later in the day, where we enjoy dinner together and settle in for the night.

day 7 - Exploring Seville

This morning, we enjoy a city sightseeing tour of Seville, beginning with the beautiful Maria Luisa Park and the impressive Plaza de España. We see the exterior of the city’s magnificent Cathedral and its famous bell tower, the Giralda, before exploring the charming Santa Cruz district, known for its narrow lanes, pretty squares, and lively atmosphere.

The afternoon is free for you to explore further at your own pace. You may wish to take an optional cruise on the Guadalquivir River for panoramic views of the Gold Tower and the Expo 92 site or visit the historic Maestranza bullring.

Lunch is at your leisure. In the evening, you may choose to attend an optional flamenco show to experience the passion and rhythm of this iconic Andalusian dance. We stay overnight in Seville.

day 8 - Ronda & the Costa del Sol

Seville - Ronda - Costa del Sol. We depart along the Route of the White Villages, passing through some of Andalusia’s most picturesque countryside on our way to Ronda. On arrival, you have free time to explore this historic town, dramatically set above a deep gorge and known for its traditional charm and stunning views.

We then continue to the Costa del Sol, where we enjoy dinner together and settle in for the night.

day 9 - Ferry to Tangier, Morocco

Costa del Sol (Spain) - Tangier (Morocco). Today, we depart from the Costa del Sol and cross the Strait of Gibraltar to North Africa, arriving in Tangier. On arrival, we join a guided panoramic tour to discover the city’s surroundings, including the Grottos of Hercules (entrance not included) and Cape Spartel, where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Mediterranean Sea.

You then have free time to explore at your own pace, or you may choose to join an optional excursion to Tetouan.

Please note: Each traveller is permitted one piece of luggage. In Morocco, you must clear customs personally with your own baggage. The Moroccan portion of the tour may be adjusted without significant changes to the included services.

OverNight:Tangier

day 10 - Volubilis, Meknes and Fes

Tangier - Volubilis - Meknes - Fes. After breakfast, we travel through the Middle Atlas Mountains towards Fes. Our first stop is Volubilis, where we visit the impressive Roman ruins, including the Decumanus Maximus, the main thoroughfare that once linked the Gate of Tangier to the Arch of Caracalla, built in 217 AD. The street is lined with the remains of elegant, decorated houses that reflect the city’s former grandeur.

We then continue to Meknes, one of Morocco’s historic imperial cities and former capital during the reign of Moulay Ismail. Here, we explore the medina, see the lively El-Hedim Square, and admire the magnificent Bab Al Mansour gate, considered one of the finest in Morocco.

In the afternoon, we continue to Fes, where we enjoy dinner together and spend the night.

day 11 - Exploring Fes

Today, we visit Fes, the first of Morocco’s imperial cities and its intellectual and spiritual capital. We begin with a panoramic drive from our hotel to the Royal Palace, known as Dar Al-Makhzen, famous for its seven grand gates. From here, we make our way to the medina of Fes el-Bali, the oldest and largest in Morocco, recognised by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.

Within its maze of over 2,000 narrow streets and squares, and with hundreds of mosques, the medina offers a captivating journey through time. From Bab Boujloud to Es-Seffarine Square, we walk through centuries of history, discovering the medina’s structure, traditional craftsmanship and artisan quarters such as the leather tanners and seamstresses who continue to work using age-old methods.

We also visit a Medersa, an Islamic school of learning, before ending our tour to the sound of coppersmiths hammering their wares just as they have for generations. We enjoy lunch together in a traditional restaurant, and the afternoon is free for you to explore at your own pace.

day 12 - Casablanca & Marrakech

Fes - Casablanca - Marrakech. This morning, we depart for Casablanca, the economic heart of Morocco. On arrival, you have free time for lunch along the city’s famous Corniche, where you can enjoy views of the Atlantic coast.

We also take time to see the impressive Hassan II Mosque from the outside, an architectural masterpiece built by more than 3,000 artisans.

In the afternoon, we continue our journey to Marrakech, arriving later in the day to settle in and relax.

day 13 - Exploring Marrakech

We begin our day with a guided tour of Marrakech, one of Morocco’s great imperial cities. Our visit starts at the Koutoubia Mosque, the city’s most famous landmark, once home to a great library and now a symbol of Marrakech.

We continue to the splendid Bahia Palace, built in the 19th century by skilled artisans from Fes, before walking through the old Jewish quarter, or Mellah, and on to Kissaria Square. From here, we enter the lively Djemaa el-Fna Square, a UNESCO-recognised open-air stage where storytellers, snake charmers, musicians, and dancers bring the city’s traditions to life.

Our tour continues through the bustling souk, a maze of workshops, stalls, and terraces where we meet local craftspeople such as carpenters and metalworkers and visit a Berber pharmacy offering natural remedies and argan-based products. We then return to Djemaa el-Fna Square, where you have some free time before we enjoy lunch together in a traditional restaurant.

day 14 - Marrakech to Rabat

Marrakech - Rabat. Today we leave for Rabat, Morocco’s administrative capital, another of the country’s imperial cities and the official residence of the royal family. On arrival, we visit some of the city’s most important landmarks, beginning with the Hassan Tower, the striking remains of an unfinished mosque surrounded by more than 200 columns.

We then visit the Mausoleum of Mohammed V, built in honour of the sultan who led Morocco to independence. The monument is guarded by the royal guard, dressed in colourful ceremonial uniform and mounted on horseback.

Afterwards, we take a leisurely walk through the Kasbah of the Oudayas, with its white and blue houses and lovely views over the Bouregreg River. In the evening, we enjoy a night tour of the city followed by dinner at a local restaurant.

day 15 - Tangier & Costa del Sol

Rabat - Tangier (Morocco) - Costa del Sol (Spain). This morning, we depart for Tangier to board our ferry back to Spain, crossing the Strait of Gibraltar once more. Upon arrival, our staff will be on hand to assist with your transfer to the Costa del Sol, where we return to our accommodation and enjoy dinner before getting to relax after the journey.

day 16 - Exploring Granada

Costa del Sol - Granada. This morning, we depart for Granada, one of Spain’s most captivating cities. On arrival, we visit the magnificent Alhambra and the Generalife, once the residence of the Moorish kings. These remarkable monuments are renowned for their graceful arches, tranquil courtyards, and beautiful fountains set among lush gardens.

We enjoy dinner together this evening and stay overnight in Granada. You may also choose to join an optional excursion to the caves of Sacromonte to experience a traditional gypsy flamenco performance.

Please note: If tickets for the Alhambra and Generalife are unavailable, a city tour of Granada will be offered instead.

day 17 - Toledo & Madrid

Granada - Toledo - Madrid. Today, we travel to Toledo, Spain’s Imperial City, renowned for its rich history and impressive monuments. On arrival, we enjoy lunch together before taking in a panoramic view from the Mirador del Valle, offering a stunning outlook over the city.

We then take a walk through the old town, where centuries of Christian, Muslim, and Jewish heritage blend in its architecture and atmosphere. Later, we continue to Madrid, arriving in the evening and settling in for our final night.

day 18 - Salamanca & Porto

Madrid - Salamanca (Spain) - Porto (Portugal). After our final breakfast, we depart for Salamanca, a historic and prestigious university city known for its rich heritage and lively atmosphere. You have free time to stroll through the old town and admire the magnificent Baroque-style Plaza Mayor, one of Spain’s most beautiful squares.

We then continue our journey to Porto, where we arrive in the afternoon. Our tour concludes on arrival.
