This was such an excellent holiday. We were lucky to have perfect weather, which enhanced the stunning views we enjoyed along the route. The walks were different on each day, with a variety of terrain and therefore experiences, including stopping for freshly squeezed pomegranate juice or herb pancakes for lunch. It was fascinating to see the ancient Lycian ruins, particularly at Patara. I loved the boat trip, swim and lunch on the last day too - such an fantastic way to finish the holiday. Our guide, Zep, was brilliant too. She made sure that she talked to everyone, kept us on track at a pace that suited everyone and entertained us with stories and other information about the places that we visited. I had asked her if she had any knowledge about local plants, an interest of mine, and she was able to give me lots of information. I highly recommend this trip

This is a great holiday. I've walked the Lycian way a couple of times and love Turkey. The walks were shorter but very interesting every day with a chance to swim most days and fantastic walks in the mountains and forests. Food as always was really good usually vegetarian. We were also taken to small farms and villages and local houses where the meals were fantastic. Hotel was small but comfortable with a pool and amazing breakfasts. Bar and breakfast room had lovely views over the sea towards the greek islands. Nebil the guide was excellent, kind, well informed and judged the pace for a varied group really well. Early October the weather was usually perfect to walk and warm. However we had one day of heavy rain so take a waterproof.

This was a great experience. An interesting variety of walks and a good balance between organised activities and free time to explore, swim, relax and dine out in Kas. The accommodation at Hideaway Hotel was perfect for the trip.

Great walking holiday along beautiful coastline with points of interest along the way. Challenging underfoot at times but always great fun with excellent guide, Zep. Accommodation in Kas not as pleasant as other places on the trip. Hotel there was clean but felt soulless/had no atmosphere compared to other excellent hospitality experienced.

My best Explore holiday to date. The walking was fantastic and I mean all the walks, the views, the sea, and the weather. Nebil the guide was excellent, knowledgeable and fun. The food as expected was very good. I will go back and undertake the Lycian way.

The tour leader was excellent but after 3 weeks without a break she was very tired towards the end. She was also not able to provide more historical knowledge as not qualified to do so. The accommodation was excellent but the home stay was very basic in all respects. Probably a little too basic but appreciate it helps a Turkish family. The walks were superb.

Turkey Walking Tours

Highlights of Turkey Walking Tours

  • Many hotels and tour guides run free walking tours for new tourists, and you only have to tip your guide at the end. It’s definitely a cost-effective way of getting your bearings in a new city.
  • The Lycian Way hike is probably the most famous walking tour in Turkey and connects 25 archeological sites along the way.
  • Turkey Walking tours are a great way to meet and interact with local people and see the country from their lens. They can even lend you valuable tips or direct you to great locations for food and sightseeing where regular tourists don’t visit.
  • Both the Carian Trail and the Lycian Way snake their way around the Mediterranean coastline, rewarding you with panoramic views across the water and into Europe.

Travel Tips for Walking Tours in Turkey

  • Take a walking food tour on the eastern side of Istanbul. There are so many food-based walking tours in Istanbul, but we recommend the Kadikoy neighborhood on the Asian side of the city for fantastic lamb kebabs, stuffed mussels, and more.
  • Find a free walking tour in major cities like Istanbul when you arrive. This is the most affordable way to explore major sites like the Grand Bazaar without getting lost.
  • Join a group or guided Turkey walking tour, especially if you are doing a long-distance trail like the Lycian Way, for safety and convenience. Group tours come with pre-arranged itineraries and accommodations.
  • Avoid walking tours in the summer months. Turkish summers are unreasonably hot and humid, often getting over 40°C. Opt for spring or autumn seasons instead.
  • Outside of the major cities and tourist resorts, ATMs are few and far between, so make sure to carry cash if you are venturing away from cities and tourist hotbeds.
  • Ensure that you bring clothing that can cover your head, shoulders, and knees while on a multi-day walking tour. Even though it can be hot in Turkey, it’s still a predominantly Muslim country where modesty is prized, so be respectful even if it does mean adding more layers.
