I did the Turkey In Depth tour last year with Explore and enjoyed it so much the first time that I came back for a second visit and it was just as amazing! The tour covers so many fantastic sites, giving you a real feel for Turkey’s history, culture, and stunning scenery. Our tour guide, Özgür, was absolutely fantastic. This was my second time travelling with him, and once again he went above and beyond for the whole group. He’s so knowledgeable, friendly, and really made the trip special. Our driver, Ati, was also amazing, expertly navigating all the winding roads and keeping us safe and comfortable the entire way. The food was brilliant fresh, tasty, and full of flavour wherever we went. Every meal felt like a treat! The hotels were great too. Sobek Stone House, Kekova Hotel, and Hotel Palme were all lovely places to stay. The staff at each went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable and happy nothing was ever too much trouble. Overall, it was a fantastic trip from start to finish. Great sites, brilliant food, amazing people I honestly couldn’t fault it. Can’t wait to go again!

'Turkey In Depth' was an excellent tour. I was particularly impressed with the Tour guide, Oz, who went out of his way to ensure that we all had a memorable time. We had two tour members with personal medical conditions that arose during the tour and Oz was very sensitive to their needs, discreetly arranging hospital visits for them while ensuring the tour progress was unaffected. His knowledge of the various places we visited was excellent and his sense of humour was delightful. All members of the tour were seasoned travellers and they were all very friendly and interesting people. We had a very good time together. The places visited were fascinating and the hotels were generally of a good standard. There is a large amount of bus travel between the sites visited, which potential travellers should bear in mind, but the bus we travelled in was very comfortable. The tour is definitely 'Full On' as described. A reasonable level of fitness is necessary as there is a lot of walking around ancient sites with uneven, often slippery paths as well as lots of steps. Overall, this was an excellent tour that gave great insight into this wonderful country and its ancient history. I recommend it highly as it exceeded my expectations.

This was such an excellent holiday. We were lucky to have perfect weather, which enhanced the stunning views we enjoyed along the route. The walks were different on each day, with a variety of terrain and therefore experiences, including stopping for freshly squeezed pomegranate juice or herb pancakes for lunch. It was fascinating to see the ancient Lycian ruins, particularly at Patara. I loved the boat trip, swim and lunch on the last day too - such an fantastic way to finish the holiday. Our guide, Zep, was brilliant too. She made sure that she talked to everyone, kept us on track at a pace that suited everyone and entertained us with stories and other information about the places that we visited. I had asked her if she had any knowledge about local plants, an interest of mine, and she was able to give me lots of information. I highly recommend this trip

Such an amazing experience. Our guide was exceptional as was out driver. They looked after our every need and advised on places to eat. I love that Explore support the local community. Nice range of hotels, smaller and more intimate. Amazing history. Sailing was my favourite day! Gallipoli was very sad. Istanbul was amazing! Ephesus was huge! The group was small and we all got on really well. No stress at all. The perfect adventure! Such an insight into an amazing country. Thank you!

Great walking holiday along beautiful coastline with points of interest along the way. Challenging underfoot at times but always great fun with excellent guide, Zep. Accommodation in Kas not as pleasant as other places on the trip. Hotel there was clean but felt soulless/had no atmosphere compared to other excellent hospitality experienced.

Top Cultural, Religious and Historic Sites in Turkey

  • You may know the name of Troy best from the Brad Pitt film, however, the UNESCO World Heritage Site ruins of this ancient city are an incredible testament to Turkey’s former cultures, alongside other historic sites such as Pergamon and Ephesus.
  • Emotionally charged Gallipoli Peninsula — site of ill-fated Allied landings during World War One — includes Lone Pine and ANZAC Cove, both important places of pilgrimage for many seeking to understand the current world order.
  • Combine a history lesson with a little shopping at the Koza Han Silk Bazaar in Bursa, built in 1491 as a series of covered walkways around a central quad, and still a great place to grab a souvenir or enjoy a Turkish coffee.
  • Discover the ancient ruins and hot springs at Pamukkale (ancient Hierapolis), where for thousands of years people have sought out the calcium-rich mineral springs.
