Too many early mornings.
We stayed in three different locations in Peru -- Lima, Sacred Valley and Cuzco. All hotels were upscale, in great locations, and had helpful staff.
Surprisingly comfortable accommodation and transport. I wished it had one more free day added to explore Cusco.
Peru Explorer was exactly the right amount of days to experience all the highlights and still have time for a bit of R & R. Price was great, and the tour director made the experience all the more special.
Keeps you busy but worth it.
our Travel Director was very knowledgeable. Day 5 was too packed as we already had had a physically exhausting day at Machu Picchu the previous day. By the time we reached the Temple of the Sun we just couldn't concentrate. Ava Spot Hotel at Urubamba was very basic. They turn off water during the nights so if you get up to use the facilities there is no water in the taps. There was a dog barking the entire two nights we were there. Also a motion sensor light outside the window disturbed us the entire night. As the restaurant is not heated the food served gets cold immediately. Suggest you charge a bit more and provide a better hotel here.
It's important to know that this trip did not include transfers from the airport. And while the travel was worth it, there was a flight, train ride, and lots of bus trips on dirt roads, which made it very travel heavy. I was sad to learn. There was no evening dinner excursions, which are my favorite. Also elevation is no joke. It definitely affected me with pretty consistent headaches and dehydration. But I learned that the medications made it worse for me. And did better off medications and drinking a ton of water. The rainbow mountain excursion was worth it but so much travel. For a short time on the mountain. We had much more free time on this trip than others in the past, which was also different. was the most amazing tour director with so much information and true love for his country. We learned so much that I can still remember today.Making this trip very worth it.
While the itinerary offered some great optional excursions (rainbow Mountain, although particularly challenging ended up being one of my favorites). I personally booked a couple on my own. One experience was not offered through Costsaver (found through my own research of local experiences) and the other I booked through another party because the optional experience offered by Costsaver was relatively more expensive than the one I did independently. The food tour in Barranco I did on my own was a great choice because the optional that was offered through Costsaver ended up getting canceled. Machu Picchu, which was included in our itinerary, was an absolute highlight, and as mentioned previously, the other included experiences such as visiting a local house and empanada class made for an amazing experience.
Hotels were great and tour was amazing.
The fountain show was kind of cheesy. The rest of the itinerary was great. The breakfast at our final hotel was terrible.
The hotels were just ok (Hilton was great), the coach was good. The itinerary did not have as much free included activities as past Costsaver trips. We also did not get a previous traveler gift. One of the stops listed in the itinerary was skipped, and that made me sad. Costsaver has raised prices, but seems to be giving less.
