This walking tour will introduces you to its lively heart and rich history. From there, stroll through the charming streets of the old town, passing Plaza de la Villa and Calle Mayor as your guide shares stories of Madrid’s royal past and local traditions. Later, continue toward San Miguel Market for a glimpse of daily life before ending your walk at the grand Royal Palace, a perfect spot to admire the city’s elegance and timeless charm. Instead of visiting the Cathedral, step inside Santo Tomé Church to admire El Greco’s masterpiece, The Burial of the Count of Orgaz, and then continue to Santa María La Blanca Synagogue, a remarkable symbol of Toledo’s Jewish legacy. Arrive in Pinhão (15:00 hrs) in the afternoon, considered the heart of the Douro Demarcated Wine Region and home to many renowned estates producing the world-famous Port wine. This charming riverside town beautifully reflects the region’s winemaking heritage, with some estates offering elegant rural accommodations. Don’t miss the Pinhão railway station, a 19th-century gem adorned with stunning blue-and-white tile panels depicting scenes from local viticultural traditions.

At 12:00 hrs, your ship sets sail, offering a beautiful afternoon cruise through the Douro Valley, where terraced vineyards and golden hills create one of Portugal’s most captivating landscapes. In the evening, join your fellow travelers for the Captain’s Dinner, a special occasion to celebrate the journey with fine cuisine and delightful company.

After you have enjoyed breakfast onboard, your river cruise will first arrive in Vega de Terrón at 08:00 hrs. You will then disembark by 09:00 hrs, marking the end of your unforgettable Douro journey. From there, make your own way to the Madrid international airport for your flight back home

Please note that we recommend choosing a flight schedule that departs in the late afternoon so that you have plenty of time to reach airport.  Alternatively, you can book an extra night in Madrid and fly homeward the next day.
