Walking the Camino Norte from San Sebastian to Bilbao through Basque country
Visiting swish seaside San Sebastian / Donostia, a 'foodie' paradise
Stunning scenery - from the coast to mountain villages
Enjoying the camaraderie of fellow hikers and pilgrims
Bilbao and its great art and architecture
Follow the scenic Bay of Biscay from San Sebastian to Bilbao on the "Camino Norte - San Sebastian to Bilbao" tour, an 8-day self-guided walking adventure. This moderate-level trip is ideal for travelers seeking a blend of coastal beauty and cultural immersion along one of the Camino’s original pilgrimage routes.
Pass through charming fishing villages, fertile valleys, and modern marvels like Bilbao’s Guggenheim Museum. The landscapes alternate between dramatic seascapes and quiet mountain paths, offering a rewarding yet less crowded alternative to the French Camino.
Staying in small, characterful hotels, you’ll experience the region’s hospitality and unique blend of ancient and contemporary architecture. The USP of this tour package is its scenic and historical variety, making it an enriching choice for those looking to explore Spain’s northern coast on foot.
We had a great time on our walk. Everything went as described, including detailed information pre-tour, accomodation and luggage transfers. The Camino Norte was phenomenally beautiful although was harder physically than we had expected. It was our first multi-day trek and the more training you can do pre-trip (especially hills) the better. Day 2 was particularly hard but then your body adjusts and you get into a rhythm of the day. We are already planning our next trek.
We enjoyed our Camino trail trip from San Sebastian to Bilbao. The first day we split into 2 separate days as we had read the reviews that is very long walk. We were very happy we did this as it was a long walk and once the reached the outskirts of the town there was another 30-40 minute walk to the hotel. This was common for other days too where you walked extra kms to get to your hotel. The ship looking hotel in Orio had 7 different spa pools with jets etc which was fantastic. Don't get your hopes up it was the only hotel like this. We found this tour fantastic as we met people along the way and then found they were staying at the same hotel. We formed a bond with them and would catch up with them at the next hotel or bump into them at one of the towns along the way and share our experiences. I would say this trail is medium with at least 1-2 days being very hard as there are very steep grades up and down hills/mountains and slippery conditions. 1 hotel had a large bedroom which was great but it was in the middle of nowhere and overlooked their car park, there was a very small town that took 5 minutes to explore the other hotels were good.
Excellent planning. Very good accommodation!
A wonderful and at times challenging 6 days! Highly recommend this section of the Norte.
All the lodging arrangements were great. The luggage transfer was right on time.
