Towering limestone peaks and lush green meadows set the stage for the 'Walking in the Dolomites' tour—a captivating 8-day self-guided walking journey through Italy’s iconic mountain region. Starting in Cortina d’Ampezzo and ending in Campitello Di Fassa, this tour invites you to trace a route beneath the dramatic spires and cliffs of the Dolomites, famed for their ever-changing hues and striking silhouettes.
Each day features new panoramas, from the awe-inspiring Tre Cime di Lavaredo to the mighty Marmolada, with paths winding through quaint villages and alpine pastures awash with wildflowers in summer. Along the way, indulge in local hospitality at mountain refuges and savor authentic Italian cuisine while resting your legs and soaking up the views.
History is never far away—these mountains once echoed with the battles of World War I, and remnants still shape the landscape. Today, the peaceful environment and rich biodiversity make it one of Europe’s most rewarding destinations for moderate trekking.
The unique selling point of this walking tour is its unrivaled blend of natural grandeur and cultural depth, providing both challenge and comfort for experienced travelers eager to discover the Dolomites’ timeless magic.
Our self-guided walk through the Dolomites was an unforgettable experience. The route was exceptionally well-planned, with clear and easy-to-follow instructions that made navigating the trails a breeze. The scenery was absolutely breathtaking—towering peaks, lush valleys, and dramatic landscapes at every turn. Accommodation along the way was comfortable and welcoming, and the luggage transfers were seamless, allowing us to focus entirely on the walk and the views. The combination of logistical ease and stunning natural beauty made this trip truly stand out. Highly recommended for anyone seeking a well-supported adventure in one of Europe’s most spectacular mountain regions.
Our self-guided trek was really well supported. Very helpful information about local bus routes and hiking options (especially regarding tram availability where needed). All accommodations were first rate — warm and welcoming, in good locations. A couple of the hiking stages were more challenging than we expected, but overall a fantastic trek through a spectacular part of the Dolomites.
The Dolomites were magical and our self guided walking tour was the perfect way for us to see them!
I score the trip a 4 but it was actually a 3.5. Here were the positives: Hotel choices were excellent, trail choices were good and the scenery was amazing. The negatives were: having to wait until 2 weeks before departure to receive hotel confirmation and trail map app. The RoadBook app was frustrating to use at times. We also experienced a minor luggage mix-up on one night (nice service recovery by staff).
Overall a fabulous trip that I would recommend to others.
A good experience but some areas could be improved.
We greatly enjoyed our 8 day 'Walking in the Dolomites' self-guided tour. The varied terrain walked ... with easier day options, catching a cable car 'up' some sections of the walks, provided us with great flexibility and a tailored experience.
Mixed feelings about this trip. The Dolomites themselves are spectacular. However, some of the accommodation was fantastic, and some was well below average (unfortunately on the rest day section). The instructions for the walks were often unclear, and there seemed to be way too many buses required to get to and from walk starts and finishes - sometimes with poor connections.
While the walks were spectacular we found the written instructions overly complicated and confusing. Instructions to load maps on Google were wrong and we were unable to use. Some accommodations were below expectations while others exceeded.
Easy to use with all marking. Will use them again.
