Absolutely loved this tour! Perfect pace, lots of free time to wander, tour guide excellent & accom was the best.
A well organised tour. We got to see and experience many sights, local food and wine during this tour. It was well paced and having three occasions where we stayed in a hotel for two nights was welcomed and gave us time to really explore and see the surrounding areas. The hotels were very accommodating, however a kettle, with tea and coffee making facilities would be appreciated. Although Matera is an amazing and beautiful location the cave hotel should be reconsidered. Far too many steps and accommodation is basic and air conditioning poor. A small group is ideal with tour guide and driver. We would definitely recommend this tour of Puglia.
Our Back Roads of Puglia was excellent the guides were knowledgeable and helpful we travelled to interesting places and meet some wonderful people. The food was excellent and the accommodation was also great overall I would highly recommend this trip.
The experience did not meet my expectation. Although our tour guide was exceptional the coach and driver were not up to my expectation, some of the accommodation was average at best, especially breakfasts and breakfast service. I expected a back roads experience however, in many instances we travelled on highways, seemingly parallel and close to costal roads which would have provided a more scenic route. The unseasonably hot weather ( obviously outside of the control of Blue-Roads) made nighttime sleeping in poorly conditioned rooms difficult
My wife and I had not been to this par of Italy before and we weren’t disappointed with the places we visited and the variety of activities undertaken during the tour
Found this tour disappointing Too many churches - not everyone is a catholic- disappointed at the lack of and prices of food
A well planned and paced tour around Puglia.
I have visited Italy with Back Roads previously and loved it. I loved it again! Puglia is different to other parts of Italy (at least in my experience) The walking tours were sometimes more challenging than I remember from past tours but not necessarily a bad thing, at least for me. Our small group got along well together; our Tour Leader Flavio, was great! An Italian who had lived in Australia for a time, he understood our Aussie sense of humour and there was quite a bit of banter back and forth. He was always focussed on keeping us safe and was very knowledgeable. Our accommodation varied from palazzos with all mod cons, to up to the minute villas and even caves! Sometimes, right in the centre of the city to a little out of the way, but always interesting. Our mini bus was modern and clean and our driver got us from one place to the next safely and on time. We ate, drank, learned, laughed, occasionally grumbled, travelled and found new friends together.
Great tour. Group of 12 worked well - more like a large family than a tour group. Our amazing guide, Francesca, looked after us really well and there were no major problems at all. Activities and hotels were all top notch. The highlight, of many, would have to be the cave hotel at Matera. If you are thinking of going to Puglia I’d suggest giving Back Roads a go.
Drop the wine tasting, cooking classes and cheese lunch! Make arrangements for those wanting to make tea in their rooms, including fresh milk. The seats in the bus were painful for those with long legs! The Guide, Flavio, was very good indeed. Knowledgeable, conscientious and helpful.
Welcome to wonderful Puglia: the ‘heel’ of Italy’s boot. Filled with gallant tales and striking vistas, every step of this 9-day journey will take you somewhere new and refreshing. Bask in the middle of sun-drenched piazzas, slumber inside caves and stop time with a sample or two of locally made dishes such as burrata, orecchiette and panzerotti. Whether you’re intrigued by its history or its cuisine, know that this calm adventure will ignite your soul in a new and profound way.
