Itinerary
Step into a world where Mediterranean history meets natural beauty on the Puglia Guided Walk, an eight-day journey from Lecce to Matera. Designed for seniors and experienced walkers seeking an easy-paced adventure, this small group walking tour delves into Italy’s southern gems—Alberobello, Ostuni, and the enchanting city of Lecce.
Meander through valleys framed by olive groves and vineyards, discover the iconic trulli houses of Alberobello, and explore the Sassi cave dwellings in Matera. The route blends archaeological treasures with coastal hikes, inviting you to lose yourself in the narrow streets of Ostuni and the seaside charm of Otranto. Lecce, the baroque “Florence of the South,” provides a fitting start or finish, rich in culture and history.
This tour package stands out for its immersive blend of history, architecture, and gentle walking, offering travelers a chance to experience Puglia’s unique character at a comfortable pace. The USP: guided exploration of some of Italy’s most atmospheric towns and landscapes, with the added pleasure of local cuisine and warm hospitality throughout.
day 1Arrival in Lecce, walk around the historic centre
Make your own way to Lecce, the capital of the Salento region. From the train station it’s an easy walk or a short taxi ride (approx. EUR 15–20) to the hotel, which is located in the historic centre.
At 6:00pm, meet your guide and fellow travellers in the hotel reception, followed by a welcome dinner. Known as the “Florence of the South,” Lecce is a compact and lively city brimming with character. Within its historic walls you’ll find ornate churches and convents, fascinating museums, impressive monuments, and plenty of cafés to enjoy. It’s a place made for wandering – every corner reveals something new. We recommend arriving in the afternoon to give yourself time to stroll the streets, take in the atmosphere of the main piazza overlooking the Roman amphitheatre, and simply soak up the southern Italian vibe. Additional pre-tour nights can be booked on request.

I would highly recommend this trip. It covered all the interesting areas in Puglia. Our guide Gabriele was fantastic, he went over and beyond what was expected, he made the trip entertaining and enjoyable for everyone with his stories and knowledge of Italian culture. Everyone in our group got along well which helped to make the trip a pleasure. From the food, drinks, to the execution of our activities, it was all a memorable experience. Great time of year in May to see the many wildflowers and greenery in the Italian countryside. Thanks.

We really enjoyed the Puglia walking tour. Our small group got on well together and Marion, our guide was amazing. She is very mature and knowledgeable about local history & biology. She was calm, kind and considerate, and did a tremendous job of organising the accommodation and our activities.
Our walking trip in Puglia was wonderful. The accommodation was excellent, from the Palazzo in Lecce, to the Masseria in Ostuni to the Sassi hotel in Matera. The walks were well planned, varied and through beautiful scenery from olive groves, beachside tracks, trulli filled villages to rocky ravines. Our guide Marion was fantastic - she lead our group of 7 with care and kindness and her knowledge of the local environment, flora and fauna impressed us all. Thank you UTracks for such a great experience and special thanks to Marion, you really made our week memorable.
