Venture into the wild heart of Italy on the 6-day Italian Apennines: Walks & Wildlife trekking tour, designed for experienced travelers and seniors alike. Join expert nature guides in Abruzzo’s rugged mountains to track wolves at dawn, explore bear corridors, and spend a night in a remote mountain refuge. Each day reveals the intimate bond between people and wildlife in this untamed region. More than just a hiking trip, this journey supports vital biodiversity restoration through the Rewilding Apennines project, with all profits contributing to local conservation efforts. The USP: a rare chance to witness conservation in action while exploring one of Italy’s most remote and beautiful landscapes.
Beautiful scenery (from the wilderness areas to the villages), great company and wonderful food in the Abruzzo region of the Apennines. The walks were a fantastic introduction to the area and highlighted the wide array of plants and animals, with beautiful trees and plenty of wildflowers. We spent peaceful moments watching for wildlife, spotting chamois, wild boar and a distant pack of wolves. The trip profits are donated to Rewilding Apennines to support their diverse conservation efforts which makes the experience that much better!
We had a wonderful, unforgettable trip to the Apennines, exploring the stunning landscapes in the Abruzzo region. From peaceful walks through incredible beech forests to following a pack of horses up a mountain, the trip was a perfect mix of adventure and serenity. The food was of course delicious throughout the entire trip, and the accommodation was warm and welcoming (especially the mountain refuge).
The area is beautiful, with snow capped peaks up to 3000 meters. The hikes are very doable, especially up to and back from the refugio. We visited the national parks and saw the good work that Rewilding Apennines is doing. Exodus donates the trip profits to them.
This trip on Rewilding the Apennines took us on incredible walks to magnificent views that made us feel we were the only people on earth. We had the opportunity to walk within an European old growth forest and see wolves, chamois, deer, a golden eagle and other wild animals (a bear in action on a camera-trap but not real life, unfortunately!). The walks were just the right amount of challenging and we trekked through stunning wilderness with our incredibly knowledgeable guide, Andrea - a former forester, who enhanced our experience with deep knowledge of the trees, animals and forest ecology. One of the days spent with the Rewilding Apennines team helped give an extra level of expertise about the challenges of nature preservation and community education. The meals on this trip were always freshly cooked and delicious!
