Stand atop one of Nepal’s most iconic peaks with the Island Peak Climb from Chhukung (Group Tour)—a classic challenge for mountaineers and trekking enthusiasts. Known locally as Imja Tse (6,160 m), Island Peak earned its evocative name for its island-like appearance amid a sea of glacial ice, first noted by Eric Shipton’s 1953 expedition. This group trek is crafted for young adults and experienced climbers eager to test their endurance and savor jaw-dropping Himalayan scenery.
Guided by experts, you’ll journey through a landscape dominated by the likes of Lhotse, Nuptse, Makalu, and the unmistakable silhouette of Everest itself. The best seasons—spring and autumn—offer optimal conditions for both the climb and the sweeping views from the summit. The route features a blend of trekking and technical climbing, with the snowy west face of Island Peak providing a dramatic backdrop for the ascent.
Beyond the challenge, the trip’s USP is the camaraderie of a small group tour, offering support, shared triumphs, and a sense of community often missing from solo endeavors. For those seeking a memorable Himalayan adventure and a taste of high-altitude mountaineering, this tour package is an unbeatable introduction.
You will be introduced with the guide and crew member of climbing arriving in Chhukung. Chhukung Valley is located under an incredible rock wall which links Nuptse to Lhotse.
From here, we will be having fabulous views of Amadablam (6,856m) which is also called the most photographed mountain in Nepal.
Today, we walk along the Imja Khola to Pareshaya Gyab. This is is a beautiful little place by a small lake that offers nice views of the Lhotse glacier and the Nuptse-Lhotse wall.
Once our camp is ready, we will be arrange our climbing equipment for the next day and rest.
Early in the morning, we will begin our climb to reach the summit. Ascending from the base camp, we will reach the Island Peak High Camp (5600m). From this point, we can see a semicircle view of cliffs that go up in the north such as Nuptse (7,879m), Lhotse Middle Peak (8,410m), Lhotse (8,501m) and Lhotse Shar (8,383m).
To the east, we will see the frozen waves of the Lhotse Shar Glacier above which towers the Cho Polu (6,734m). We will also witness the gigantic Makalu (8,475m).
From the south of the Imja glacier, we will be rewarded by Baruntse (7,720m) and Ama Dablam (6,856m).
Our trail will now get complicated once we reach the bed of the icefall located below the peak. In order to succeed, we must proceed with great caution, balancing the barrier to approach the rim leading to the summit.
After we reach the summit, we will be back to the Base Camp and continue trek to Chhukung.
We have set aside a day at the base camp in case of bad weather or other unforeseen delays.

We summitted Island Peak on a wonderful day. Everything went smoothly. I had some communication issues on the programme with the guide, the local operator reacted professionnally and solved everything.
