Trekking in Langtang valley is often called “the valley of glacial masses trekking “. The Manaslu Valley Trek is a remote and spectacular trek with steep tracks and beautiful views throughout the trek.
It is culturally fascinating with strong links to Tibet in the upper Buri Gandaki (called Nupri ‘the western mountains’) and the Tsum Valley, and even includes the Larkya La (5106 m) as a challenge. The views of Mt Manaslu, the eighth highest mountain in the world, are marvelous and spellbinding.
The trek around Manaslu can be done more conveniently these days because there are several lodges available all along the route. There are even phone and mobile access in some parts of the trekking trail. Nearly every village now has a proper lodge. You can certainly find porridge, tsampa, noodles, omelette and roti at most places. While simple, they are clean for the most part. There are also small shops in most villages along the way with limited stocks of soap, toilet paper, batteries, bottled water, biscuits, noodles, beer, whisky etc.
Among the trips to Nepal, this is the absolute highlight, with strong, friendly, hospitable people, a living Buddhist culture and untouched wildlife because of Buddhist prohibitions on hunting.The people are poor, since they have been bypassed by development for centuries, but this means their unique culture has remained intact.
A special Restricted Area Permit is required for Manaslu. In addition, you will need to pay both the Manaslu Conservation Area Park (MCAP) fee and the Annapurna Conservation Area Park (ACAP) fee for the section from Dharapani to Besi Sahar after you join the round-Annapurna trail. Making sure we sanitised before every meal and carefully explaining the next days activities. He was very caring when a couple of the girls were unwell at altitude. And from day 1 he was very cautious and caring with my daughter’s peanut allergy, putting her mind at ease. Food was great. Min was also a standout, hardest worker of them all, leading our group every day on the trails and then serving us food, providing tea and washy washy water every morning. We tipped the team well with a bit extra for Min on the side for his hard work.

A very enjoyable trip, with a lot of variety. Our tour leader, Su, was absolutely excellent. I particularly enjoyed the hikes and our time in Chitwan National Park, and the Nepalese people are very friendly. The roads in Nepal are currently very poor, although there are infrastructure works underway to improve the major routes. However, the scenery and interesting settlements we passed through made up for the bumpy ride. The only disappointment was the haziness during the first half of the trip, which meant that we couldn't see the high mountains, but this was outside Explore's control! A December or January trip may be a better option for clearer views.

An amazing country, so colourful, friendly, interesting and our tour guide was second to none. There were temples, palaces, wildlife and we loved being on safari in Chitwan National Park. A fascinating culture with wonderful views and very comfortable accommodation. A super trip.
