In November 2023 me and my friend embarked on a bucket list adventure. We booked a private tour for the drive in and out EBC via Gokyo Ri trip. Right from the get go everything was smooth, the communication at the head office made it appear there was no time difference between the U.K. and Nepal. Upon arriving in Nepal the pick up from the airport and briefing were clear and to the point with no delays or issues. The trek itself has definitely been one of the most beautiful and difficult things I have ever embarked upon and I have NO regrets with my choice in agency or itinerary! My tour guide for the 3 week package we booked and every day he stayed happy, tried his best to keep our spirits uplifted and made sure all the little things behind the scenes were sorted so all we had to do was focus on the trek itself. I highly recommend having him as a tour guide especially if you’re trekking in the Everest Region. Also, our Porter deserves a special shout-out for showing the strength of these Nepalese people, much stronger than I could imagine to be.

day 1Fly to Lukla (2,804m) and Trek to Phakding (2,610m)

An early morning start takes us to the Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu for the 35-minute scenic flight to Tenzing and Hillary Airport at Lukla (2,804m). On arrival at the airport, the guide will brief you and introduce our porters before we begin our trek towards Phakding (2,610m).
After landing we have time to explore the village while our Sherpa crew sort and load our trekking equipment. Then we begin our trek by descending towards the Dudh Kosi River where we join the main trail to Namche Bazaar, located just above Chaunrikharka (2,713m). The walking is easy. After passing through the small village of Ghat (2,550m), it is a short walk to Phakding.

The Manaslu trek is one of Nepal's best treks. If you have 17 days available for trekking in Nepal, we highly recommend this trek. It is challenging, especially the day of crossing the Larke pass at 5,135 m but if you are in reasonable shape, determined, and able to walk 6 hours a day, you can do this trek. Manaslu is the eighth highest peak in the world, bordering the Gorkha and Manang districts in Nepal. It is just 64km East of the previously popular Annapurna treks. Literally, Manaslu is derived from Sanskrit with manasa means “Mountain of the spirit". The Manaslu region encompasses everything from sub tropical foothills to the arid Trans-Himalaya high pastures bordering Tibet. The Manaslu trek opened only in 1991. Its popularity increased significantly when teahouses become available around 2009. The Manaslu region has no roads or alike and the trekking trails are excellent. This combined with a high variation in altitude starting from around 700 m and getting up to 5,135 m is the reason why the Manaslu trek today is preferred over the Annapurna trek. After a 6 hours bus ride from Kathmandu, the trek begins Arughat. En-route the trek, you will not only see spectacular mountain scenery but can also visit several monasteries. If you have 19 days available, you will not regret choosing this trek. If you are in doubt as to physical fitness we highly recommend adding a porter. 1 porter can carry up to 30 kgs and can thus be shared between 2 people.
