Terrific 6 days of hiking the Aosta Valley and approach to Monte Rosa Italy. The days were beautiful and filled with challenging hikes and the evenings were wonderful and full of good food and company. Hikes were clearly marked and well maintained.

This was a thoroughly enjoyable itinerary. our host and our driver were extremely efficient, helpful and knowledgeable about the areas through which we travelled. The Glacier Express train trip was lovely however we were in sested in standard class where your itinerary explicitly stated first class seating. The food served at the tables was very ordinary. Letting the guests know this change before boarding the train would have been preferable to the negative mood of some of the tour guests throughout the journey. A high tea in Zermatt was a lovely inclusion. The hotels were excellent and extremely comfortable and well positioned for walking around the towns/cities.

Travel Tips for Hiking tours in Switzerland

  • Join a guided hiking tour in Switzerland. Although a lot of trails are waymarked, it is always a good idea to have a local guide who knows the region very well.
  • Learn to read a paper map. Many of the trails on Switzerland hiking tours pass through remote regions, where relying on phone signals is not a good idea.
  • Bring a ton of sun cream during your hiking tour in Switzerland. The elevation and refraction from the snow and ice on the Swiss mountains can easily give you terrible sunburn.
  • Choose a decent porter service or jump on a guided hiking tour. Hiking through Switzerland is difficult enough without having to carry all of your gear with you.
  • Beware of the altitude and take acclimatization seriously. Switzerland has 48 peaks that are over 4,000 meters in elevation, so high-altitude acclimatization is crucial during your hiking trip.
