Itinerary

Craving an alpine adventure that goes beyond the ordinary? The 'Haute Route' walking tour delivers nine days of unforgettable trekking through some of Switzerland’s most dramatic and lesser-traveled mountain landscapes. Starting in Arolla and finishing in Zermatt, this self-guided journey covers iconic sections of the famed Haute Route, showcasing the wild beauty of the Valais canton.

Designed for experienced walkers and seniors with a good level of fitness, the itinerary leads you through lush meadows, eccentric Victorian hotels, and remote villages like Gruben and Grimentz, all set beneath awe-inspiring peaks such as the Weisshorn, Pigne de Arolla, and the legendary Matterhorn. The trails are quieter than many in Switzerland, offering a sense of discovery and solitude amid alpine flowers and frequent wildlife sightings.

As you move from French-speaking to German-speaking Switzerland, you’ll have the chance to practice both languages and immerse yourself in local culture, all while enjoying top-notch accommodations and regional cuisine. Each day brings a new vista and a fresh perspective on the grandeur of the Swiss Alps.

The unique selling point of this trip is its access to hidden corners of the Alps rarely visited by tourists, alongside the comfort of pre-arranged hotels and seamless logistics. For those seeking a challenging yet deeply rewarding trekking tour package, the Haute Route is a true high-altitude classic.

day 1Arrive Les Haudères

Make your own way to the famous climbing village of Arolla (1998m). It is a tiny place with a small supermarket, a post office and a couple of hotels. At this altitude, you are already almost up among the glaciers and if there is time you could walk up the valley for a bit from the hotel towards the glaciers of Mount Colon.

Excellent adventure! Only regret not having done the entire hike, end to end. Accommodations and route notes, digital and paper maps were spot on.

This was an amazing trip with fabulous logistical support, and top notch accommodations. We loved all of the hotels and often had the best room in the house.
