The Ruby Valley Ganesh Himal Trek / Pangsang Pass is one of Nepal’s best-kept secrets—perfect for young adults craving authentic adventure and cultural immersion. This off-the-grid trek starts from Syabrubensi and winds through foothills, vibrant farm terraces, and ethnic villages once part of the ancient salt trade route. Stand atop Pangsang Pass at 3,850 meters for panoramic Himalayan views, including Ganesh Himal and Langtang. The journey is punctuated by homestays, offering a unique chance to connect with Tamang, Ghale, Gurung, and Kami communities, and to experience their traditions and daily life firsthand. The trek’s affordability, local interaction, and support of community-based tourism make it not only a scenic adventure but also a meaningful way to contribute to the region’s growth. The USP: a genuine homestay trek blending stunning vistas with cultural discovery.
if you look for a trip in Nepal away from the main Trails and where you experence local life as it is than you should go to the Ruby valley. The home stays and lodges are simple but clean. Food is excellent organic and fresh, prepared with care and love. People in the village are curious to get you known and to talk to you. You will pass through fields, villages and forests. The Trail does you not lead very close to the snow mountains of the Himalaya range but close to the life in the village. And if you lucky you are able to find some ruby or gold in the river.
The Ruby Valley is one of the least visited trekkings I have done so far. No surprise that we were very warm welcomed in every village and took part of the local life including simple but clean homestays and delicious, freshly cooked nepaly meals. Thanks to our 2 guides Pemba Sherpa and Saujan Tamang (from the Ruby Valley) who did a great job and we had a great time. A big thanks two our Nepali friends. We can only recomend both of them to anyone wishing to book a trekking in Nepal. Sandra
