Discover southern Spain on this four-day journey from Madrid back to Madrid, packed with history, culture and striking architecture. Travel through Extremadura to Merida, a UNESCO-listed city famed for its remarkably preserved Roman theatre, amphitheatre and bridge. Continue to Cordoba to explore the magnificent Mosque-Cathedral and wander the atmospheric Jewish Quarter. We depart Madrid and travel west along the motorway into Extremadura - the birthplace of several explorers who journeyed to the New World. We arrive in Merida, the regional capital and a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for its remarkably preserved Roman remains. Here you will have free time to explore landmarks such as the Roman Theatre, Amphitheatre and the impressive Roman Bridge.
We then continue to Cordoba, once the capital of the Caliphate and one of the most important cities in medieval Europe.
