A spectacular high altitude trek to the sublime Gokyo Lakes, with a crossing of the Renjo La into the Thame Valley offering unparalleled views of Mount Everest.. This trek is ideal for those seeking a quieter Everest experience without compromising on big mountain views. If you’ve dreamed of seeing Everest but want to avoid the crowds of the main Base Camp route, this carefully paced itinerary offers the perfect alternative.
With the support of our experienced guides and crew, you’ll walk through Sherpa villages and yak pastures en route to the striking turquoise lakes of the Gokyo Valley. From here, we ascend Gokyo Ri for one of the most expansive views in the Himalaya - with Everest, Cho Oyu and a panorama of 8000-metre giants laid out before you.
Along the way, you'll stay in our exclusive Eco-Comfort Camps, where standing-height tents, off-ground beds, and a heated dining area make for a more enjoyable and restorative journey. These private camps set well away from lodge trails offer added comfort and a stronger connection to the remote landscapes around you.
From our high camp west of Gokyo, we prepare to cross the Renjo La (5,400m / 17,716ft) - a spectacular pass with unforgettable views. The descent to Mirlung takes us along a rarely trodden trail where we’re unlikely to see other trekkers.
With extra acclimatisation days, a supportive team, and a less-travelled route, this is trekking at its best in the Everest region - immersive, scenic and far from the ordinary.
day 1Join Kathmandu (1,330 m / 4,364 ft)
You will be met at Kathmandu Tribhuvan International Airport arrivals gate by a World Expeditions representative and transferred to the Radisson Hotel in a private vehicle. The remainder of the afternoon is at leisure to relax after your journey or explore the surrounding area at your own pace.
A pre-trek briefing will be held at 4:30pm, where your guide will outline the journey ahead and organise the distribution of your trekking kit including your kit bag, sleeping bag and down or fibrefill jacket.
This evening we gather for a welcome group dinner, providing a great opportunity to meet your fellow travellers before the adventure begins.

I loved this trip. It was well paced with an excellent guide/cook and porters. These elements made the trip very doable and enjoyable. Overall a great immersion into both the Nepalese culture and the magnificent mountains that can only be experienced in this part of the world. Namaste
I had high expectations for this trip before we set off, and I wasn't disappointed. The trek itself offers stunning scenery and strikes a good balance between easier and harder days, a nice mix of lodge and tent accommodation, and occasional encounters with other trekkers without becoming the procession that the more popular EBC trek is. I couldn't fault the World Expeditions team that looked after us — from the porters, to the cooks, to the sherpas, everyone was committed to doing the best they could to ensure we had the most memorable experience. Special shout out to our lead sherpa Subol, whose extensive guiding expertise was evident throughout the trek. His knowledge, judgment, and organisation (not to mention sense of humour!) were a key part of the success of the trek. Based on this, my first experience with World Expeditions, I would not hesitate to use them again for my next trekking experience.

A wonderful experience, great guides, hard but satisfying hiking in a magnificent part of Nepal, friendly locals and lots of time to chat to hiking mates. Bit cold after 4pm if you go in December!
