The Gokyo & Renjo La Pass trip with World Expeditions went above and beyond my expectations. This was my first time visiting Nepal and it won't be my last. The trip was planned flawlessly with the right amount of mileage/rest each day, the food was exceptional and the leadership/experience of Ananad our lead guide and the rest of the team was top notch. I couldn't recommend this trip more for an amazing mix of hiking, culture, and incredible views!
This trip was so much fun. The trek was a quieter route than the EBC, and the scenery was phenomenal. I was blown away by the inclusions from World Expeditions. Our guides Anand, Sandip and Ram were both experienced and professional and we were well looked after for the entirety of the trek.
Our trip to Gokyo Lakes and the Renjo La Pass was amazing! Anand, our lead guide was great - always looking out for everyone to make sure each person was doing ok and enjoyed their experience. The rest of the staff - the cooks, porters and other guides, all helped ensure we had a great time. The food was something else - it was amazing to see just what could be made each day. This was our first trip with World Expeditions, but I certainly hope it won't be our last!
a stunning 17 day trip, beautiful and so rewarding
This trip was incredible. If you're on the fence, just do it. Gorgeous views, wonderful guide and staff. It was challenging, of course, and well worth every step.
What a wonderful experience. Between the expertise provided from our amazing guide Balram to our cook Mr Pulmar who continued to satisfy a picky eater every day and our incredible porters Deepak and Ravi who always ended the day with a smile. What more is there to like and how privileged we were to be guided through Nepal with this team. Amazing effort and we cant wait to visit again. Thank you so much to the team.
This trek was BRILLIANT for so many reasons - World Expeditions plan and prepare this wonderful trek with care & many provisions, including safety, information, on tack support, good and plentiful food, good accommodation.... - the guides are first rate in every way, the time of year was perfect (not too many crowds) and the trekkers were a lovely group of people, the mountains were magic - a total highlight of my hiking life!
The Gokyo Ri/Renjo La trek met all of my expectations. We had issues getting to Lukla with a closed highway to Ramecamp & then poor weather causing flights to be delayed, however, Bikash (our guide) managed to sort out helicopters so that the trek could occur. Weather was perfect with clear skies in the morning & some cloud in the afternoons, making for great viewing of mountains such as Ama Dablam, Cho Oyu & Everest. Accommodation & food was very good with hot showers available at some locations (for additional $). Some people experienced issues with altitude with one couple having to be helicoptered out at Gokyo. Bikash again sorted all of this out. Would certainly rate this trek as challenging, especially the 3&1/2hr climb up to Gokyo Ri - 800m straight up. Thoroughly enjoyed this trip & rate it as one of the best treks in the Himalayas given that I have also done Annapurna circuit, Kanchenjunga & Laya via Gasa trek in Bhutan. Final call out for the WEX team of guides, cooks & porters who worked hard & were always very professional.
I have travelled a great deal and I always steered away from organised tours, however my experience with World Expeditions in Nepal was a great one. The perfect combination of adventure travel with a lot of support. My favourite part was our local guide who gave us a truly immersive cultural experience. We had 3 weeks of feeling like we were a part of a little family and I would highly recommend World Expeditions, especially if you are hesitant of an 'organised' trip.
This trek was the most challenging and most amazing outdoor adventure I’ve ever undertaken. Samde, our guide, took such good care of our group of 15 that spanned ages from 23 to 73. He is so kind, pleasant, knowledgeable, encouraging, and caring, and if I ever find myself trekking in Nepal again I would definitely want him as my guide. I must also acknowledge the help I received from Rajan, an assistant guide who helped me immeasurably on the day we crossed the Renjo La and the subsequent longer days of walking. All the guides, cooks, and porters were exceptional and were so attentive to our every need. I cannot say enough good about the whole team from World Expeditions. From being awoken with a cup of hot tea, to being served three amazing, plentiful meals a day, to being handed hot drinks as we came in from a challenging day of trekking, to being brought warm washing water, to carrying not one but two fully loaded duffle bags…they did all this with kindness and caring. The rocky trails were definitely challenging for me and some of the uphill and downhill climbs were arduous for this 67 year old, but Samde knew how to pace the group and provide encouragement so that we all finished the trek happy and healthy. I will remember forever with fondness the day we sang a few songs with Samde as he strummed the guitar at one of our tea house breaks as trekkers and mule trains passed by on the trail. I enjoyed camping in the eco-camps surrounded by beautiful views but I also enjoyed the nights we spent in tea houses. The dining halls at the eco-camps are permanent structures and were all quite comfortable. As the weather got colder in the higher elevations, I was grateful for the warm sleeping bag and down jacket that World Expeditions provides, and even though it got cold overnight I was always warm enough in the tents and unheated teahouse rooms. I was grateful for the relative solitude of the trails after we split off from the main EBC trail. If you are looking to challenge yourself on a Himalayan trek, I highly recommend this Gokyo/Renjo La trek with World Expeditions.
Awesome trip reaching 5400m. Superb, clear weather. There were some definite challenges both physical and emotional for our group but our guide was superb and managed each situation with calm and empathy. The whole World Expeditions team were professional and a lot of fun.
A truly incredible experience! I loved every aspect of this trek. The guide team, led by Samde, were so knowledgeable, energetic and always took great care of us. The cooking team made sure we were never hungry, I really loved enjoying the local cuisine in particular. The porter team were so impressive, carrying our bags everyday. The campsites were a particular highlight for me, I loved being able to camp beneath mountains, waking up with hot tea to the most beautiful views. The tents are very well insulated, so I was never cold given we had fleece liners and warm sleeping bags provided by World Expeditions as well. The tea houses on the campsites were beautifully maintained and made for excellent venues for end of day card games with the tour group. The trek itself was wonderful. Hiking slow, ensuring we were well rested and acclimatised. Gokyo and Renjo La Pass are sights to behold. Everyday the views are better than the day before. Samde and the team made sure everything ran like clockwork, we got very lucky with flights into/out of Lluka. I can't fault this trip. Thank you so much to the World Expeditions team and all the local staff for making this such an incredible experience. I can't recommend this trek enough!
What an incredible trip!! Our group of 15 participants was lead by Samde and an incredible crew of porters, kitchen staff, and guides. They did everything within their power to make sure we all completed the trip safely. It was definitely a challenging trek for those of us in our 60s and 70s but we had a lot of encouragement and well-timed breaks! I have to say that I've never hiked so slowly and have never been so relieved to do so! The slow pace made the trek doable for all of us. The accommodations were a bit "primitive" at times but that is what we signed up for! The mountains were incredible and each day was a new adventure for the group. I highly recommend World Expeditions for an authentic trekking experience.
A physically challenging trip with spectacular scenery. Our guide, Sam Dee, was great- had a very slow place for the first part of the trip that aided acclimatization. He had deep knowledge of both the trek and the cultural traditions of the people in the villages and towns where we visited. The porters and the other guides were also great, very helpful, very welcoming and pleasant. The trip was well-organized, and the level of care from the staff was very high, from morning tea to serving us meals, to explanations of what we could expect in subsequent days on the trail. We appreciated the quieter sections of the trail away from the Everest Base Camp route. We had trained pretty hard prior to the trip, but the trip was still challenging because of the high altitude, the cold weather (especially at or near Gokyo), and the fact that my wife and I picked up a nasty cold that peaked about the time we crossed the Renjo La pass. While the dining rooms at the Eco Camps and Teahouses were usually heated, the tents and teahouse rooms were quite cold, especially at the higher elevations, and that added to the physical challenge of the trip, particular given its length. A few comments regarding the information provided to participants: 1) On Day 15 of the itinerary, it lists 2-3 hours for the hike to Lukla. The reality is that it is more like 5-6 hours, with a good bit of uphill climbing, so that part of the itinerary should be updated. 2) On Day 7 of the itinerary, we stayed at a Teahouse at Phortse Tenga, rather than an Eco camp. While it was nice in some ways to go to a teahouse, this was quite a ways off the route we would be taken the next day, and I would recommend a teahouse closer to the trail if the Eco Camp continues not to be an option. In our case, we saw some interesting wildlife on the way to the teahouse, but in the absence of wildlife, the additional hiking wouldn’t have been worth it. 3) It would be helpful to let people know that due to flooding and landslides, the ride from Kathmandu to Ramechapp currently takes 8-10 hours, and that could affect flights from Kathmandu at the end of the trip, in case the flights are delayed from Lukla, which apparently is not uncommon.
What an amazing adventure, run by absolute professionals, who know the country and all its seasonal challenges. Every member of the support team were amazing and worked so hard. Very gratefull, especially given the timing of our journey and a natural disaster - we were so blessed on a daily basis.
Thanks Rishi for taking care of logistics when needed. All team members were successful on this trek. Well done to the porters and all involved great outcome. Cheers Ian
For me the trip was an experience of a lifetime. The trek was hard, I had an AMS,we had minimal fresh fruit, cheese we only had once. No yogurt.
Beautiful trek with a very professional trekking group. Would suggest this one over others in the area with magical views and excellent challenges each day.
Wow - what an incredible experience. It’s not always about where you go, but who you travel with. Rishi, Gopal & Mr Mec we’re outstanding and made our journey a memorable one
Everything done right! Great leader (thanks Rishi!) and sherpa guides, Mr Meck and Mr Gopal ... lots of thought went into the menus and what we would need, and care was taken to ensure we were all managing the daily walks and were remaining healthy. Loved the whole thing - thank you for the trip of a lifetime!
