day 1Tour starts in Altamura
Our trip starts today in Altamura - a small town on the Murge plateau, renowned for its cartwheel size bread, Gothic Cathedral and the nearly intact skeleton of the Altamura Man which was found here dating back 400,000 years. Our tour leader plans to meet you in the hotel reception at 6pm for a welcome meeting and for those that wish, there is the chance to go out for dinner. If you'd like an airport transfer today, you'll need to arrive into Bari International Airport - Karol Wojtyla (BRI), which is around a 50-minute drive from the Altamura. Should you miss the welcome meeting, our tour leader will inform you of any essential information as soon as you catch up. If your flight arrives earlier in the day, you might like to explore the old town and maybe try the local PDO-protected bread - perfect for a bruschetta!

Everything was more than expected. Massimo was a great leader and motivator!!
I loved every minute of the tour and appreciated that out tour leader made dinner reservations and often pre ordered starters... The only thing I would improve is the description of the biking level required. I feel I am a fairly fit person, but the tour on a normal bike is in parts really tough. I would have chosen an E bike if I had known But everything else was great - the itinerary well thought through, wonderful food, a great tour guide and a fun group.
Our tour leader Massimo made a great trip a stellar trip. Everything was handled with professionalism and humor. We had a very diverse group of people and he managed everyone and everything so well. Itinerary was great, hotels were unique and full of character. One thing to note, even though this trip was rated as leisurely one still needed a solid level of fitness to complete it. Very happy with my experience with Explore!
1st trip with explore and was extremely impressed. Everything was well organised and to a high standard. Massimo our tour guide was exemplary. His attention to detail and local knowledge made the whole experience a joy. Thankyou Massimo
The guide was amazing at organizing a group and the many unexpected needs of 14 demanding adults! It was a well thought out itinerary with some fabulous local food or culture side trips. The guide seemed to know everyone wherever we went, so we all felt well taken care of. We are already looking at our next Explore trip after this highly enjoyable first experience.. I am an experienced cyclist and my wife took an e-bike to even it all out. If you are not comfortable with a 30 mile ride with some steep hills, I would strongly recommended (Explore should insist) on you getting an e-bike. It’s still as much of a workout as you w at it to be but the motor is a “get out of jail” card.
