We'll drive to Fatima through the agricultural lands of Ribatejo. Once there, experience life as a pilgrim at the Sanctuary of Fatima, a legendary and important Christian site that receives approximately 5 million visitors each year. Also in Fatima, be awed by the gothic grandeur of the 14th-century Batalha Monastery, a UNESCO world heritage site.
Next, we'll head to Nazare. The Nazare Cliffs provide an overwhelming view of the Atlantic Ocean; a perfect photo opportunity! Travel back in time to the days of the Knights Templar with this 8-hour, guided tour. Join us as we visit some of the most important monuments associated with one of the most intriguing and enigmatic military orders the world has ever seen. The order of the Knights Templar was founded at the beginning of the 12th century for the protection of the Holy Sepulchre and of Christian pilgrims on their way to the Holy land.
We will pick you up at your hotel or accommodation in Lisbon and drive you to the Convent of Christ, originally a Templar stronghold that later became a Roman Catholic convent after this military order ceased to exist in the 14th century. Explore the convent and learn more about the history of the Templars.
