Itinerary #3: Discover Terceira in the Azores

Overview | Activity | |
Day 1 | Arrive on Terceira Island and explore Angra Do Heroísmo | Island exploration |
Day 2 | Walk to Serra do Cume and Furnas do Enxofre | Exploration |
Day 3 | Enjoy whale watching on a boat trip | Whale watching |
Day 4 | Say goodbye to Terceira |
For a short stay in the Azores, we recommend focusing on one island only, or two at most! Terceria is a good alternative to the touristy São Miguel, which can be especially crowded during the June to August high season. Spend time in Angra do Heroismo (Angra), one of three capital cities of the Azores, and visit its main attractions, such as Teatro Angrense, Jardim Duque da Terceira, and Cathedral da Sé. The inner part of Terceria is dotted with dormant volcanoes, great for exploring by car or hiking. Terceria is also known for its variety of whales and dolphins; join a whale-watching tour in Angra to witness the whales’ migration across the Azores before ending the trip. Planning a Portugal itinerary for 4 days?
There are so many beautiful spots in Portugal, but it is best to choose one or two to explore if you’re visiting for a short trip. If you want to branch out, traveling by car is the best way to make the most out of a Portugal 4-day itinerary plan and freely move around different regions. Porto and Lisbon are only 2.5 hours apart on the high-speed train and have a wealth of attractions to explore so these two cities are a good choice if you’d prefer not to drive, but want to see more. Another recommended option is to join a 4-day tour in Portugal; check our offers or contact our travel experts for a customized trip in Portugal.
