Honest insights from past guests on our Explorer Scotland tours

We've been to the UK a number of times over 35 years but hadn't seen much of the east side of England. We had a very good experience with Back Roads on another tour and decided to try it. We like to combine a tour and some time on our own on a trip like this. We went places and saw things we never would have seen on our own. It's always nice to have someone else take care of the details sometimes. We were pleased with the itinerary and the arrangements. Our tour leader, Jessica, was wonderful. She was very accommodating to our needs. My wife doesn't move as fast as the group at times and Jessica made sure she didn't get left behind or left out. Our driver, Lee, was also very helpful. We enjoyed the others on our trip. There were only 13 travelers so we had a little extra room on the coach. We were half Australians and half Americans which made for a great mix.

Blue-Roads exceeded my expectations. Had a really wonderful time, will travel with them again. Our tour guide Jessica made this trip spectacular. Jessica is well suited to guiding and went above and beyond to make it enjoyable and rewarding for all. Jessica was so friendly, fun, professional and kind, she researched and answered all the oddball questions, was extremely well versed with the places we visited and loved. There were individual requests to stop at places and Jessica made that happen without losing any momentum. Loved the relaxed pace, thanks for a great experience Jessica and Blue-Roads.

Jess (tour guide) & Lee (bus driver) helped make a memorable trip! During the whole trip we felt well looked after, with a very safe bus driver. We enjoyed some amazing accommodation and very nice meals. The tours were very informative. 10 out off 10, will certainly use again!

Wasn’t sure I would enjoy a bus tour but I’m sold now. Great crew, guide and driver, small bus able to venture down small back roads to places most people will never get to. Also avoids having to drive in busy cities and rather just enjoy the views.

Excellent tour of Britain from London, ending in Edinburgh. Enjoyed walking through castles, Cathedrals, streets of Cities and towns, touring the back roads around the countryside. So many opportunities for photos along the drives and in the towns. Hotels were amazing and the meals were fantastic. Our tour guide was so knowledgeable on the geography and history of Britain which was great. The driver was great and was so competent driving and gave us bits of history as well.

The tour guide Daz and the bus driver Lee and the people on the trip made it a September to remember ! Definitely recommend this back road tours to anyone looking to see and be part of the culture & history experience of great britian. The accommodation was always a surprise ranging from cute pubs, restored school houses, retreats and much much more. The scenery and the inclusions plus entry to some of the most beautiful places the entire trip just kept getting better and better each day. It was a fantastic experience and can not wait to do another one.

Travel tips for Scotland Explorer Tour

  • Time outdoorsy adventure holiday in Scotland during the warmer months, as the country gets pretty frigid in winter.
  • Pack an umbrella because Scotland is a famously wet country with a sky-high average annual rainfall. This is not the place to go and work on your tan.
  • Book your accommodation and tickets well in advance for the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo. This world-famous August event sees visitor numbers explode.
  • Do not fly home without trying hearty culinary highlights like haggis, Cullen skink, Scotch pie, neeps and tatties. The Highland whisky is equally divine.
