Itinerary

On the hunt for gyros, dragons and Adriatic coastlines? Let’s convince you to choose the trip that hits the mark in 72 words. The numbers: 17 days, 7 countries, 8 cities, 1 bay and 1 riviera. The atmosphere: chilled, intriguing, and stirring. A peek into the included activities: a walking tour in Dubrovnik, a visit to Meteora Monasteries, and a visit to Lake Bled. Each trip follows the same itinerary, but the people you meet and the unplanned things that happen – they're a little thing called fate. If you believe in that kind of thing.

day 1Venice (Italy)

First stop, Venice.   An Italian welcome: drop your bags and say ciao! to the like-minded group of explorers you’ll be spending the next two and a bit weeks with. We’ve got a feeling you’ll be the best of friends in no time. Our first meal: pizza, pasta, risotto, gnocchi, bruschetta. Name us an Italian food that’s not delicious (we’ll wait). Tonight, get your first authentic taste of it during our welcome dinner. Buon appetito! Later, your way: jet lag got the better of you? Head back to the hostel for a much-needed snooze. Or follow your stomach to the nearest gelato spot for an after-dinner treat.

We recently returned from our Play & Pause: Southeastern Europe Highlights trip and our response when asked “how was it?,” has remained the same…”incredible!” Overall, it was an unforgettable experience, filled with stunning landscapes, rich history, and diverse cultures. We experienced much on this trip, while creating lifelong memories. The itinerary was very well planned, offering a great balance between organised activities and free time. This gave us the chance to explore the major highlights of each location while also enjoying the flexibility to either relax or explore each destination at our own pace. Accommodation was generally well located, with most hotels within walking distance of key locations/attractions. When transport was required, there were easily available options and reasonably priced (trains, busses, taxi or Uber etc) The hotel quality was varied. Most were good value given the overall price…others were definitely an “experience.” A real standout was our tour leader, Cass. She was exceptional and added so much to the trip. She was knowledgeable, organised, and genuinely passionate about ensuring everyone in our group had the best experience possible. Her professionalism and positive energy elevated the whole trip. This tour was a perfect way to explore the Balkans in a relaxed, engaging, and memorable way. We highly recommend it to anyone looking to experience a slightly different version of Europe, where you can have fun while still experiencing a beautiful, historic and diverse region.

great to see Eastern Europe, I visited so many locations I hadn't experienced before. Our TM and Driver were professional and helpful. I had a great time and would definitely recommend this tour for those looking to see countries not usually visited

I had the best experience on this tour. Seeing new places can be daunting, but I know all of the stress will be taken out of the process when touring with topdeck.
