Itinerary
Sardinia’s southern coast offers an ideal playground for families seeking adventure and relaxation on two wheels. The Sardinia Family Cycle Adventure, an eight-day self-guided trip from Sant'Antioco to Pula, introduces all ages to the island’s dramatic cliffs, Roman ruins, fishing villages, and famous flamingo-filled lagoons. The relaxed pace allows for plenty of beach time and cultural discovery, with family-friendly hotels and a choice of cycling options—trailers, bike seats, or e-bikes—ensuring comfort for everyone. The unique selling point of this tour package is its flexibility and inclusivity, creating an accessible, memorable cycling holiday for families.
day 1 - Arrive Sant’ Antioco
Arrive at your accommodation in Sant' Antioco, on the island of the same name.
day 2 - Ride to Maladroxia beach or Calasetta then ferry to Carloforte village (20 or 24km/12.5 or 15mi)
Get on your bike to reach Maladroxia, a beach famous for its turquoise waters. Alternatively you can head to Calasetta and board the ferry to Carloforte, a lovely village where locals still fish for Red Tuna, and explore the island lagoons populated by pink flamingo flocks and beaches. Return to your accommodation in Sant' Antioco.
day 3 - Cycle through vineyards and olive groves across the Plains of Sulcis to Sant'Anna Arresi (25km/15.5mi)
Riding through vineyards and olive groves, savour the quiet peace of the rolling plains of Sulcis. At Tratalias you can visit the Pisan sanctuary, one of the most important monuments of the Sardinian Romanesque period. Overnight Sant’Anna Arresi/Porto Pino.
day 4 - Along the Costa del Sud to Chia with its beautiful beaches (36km/22.5mi)
A stunning ride along the beautiful Costa del Sud (South Coast) with its gleaming white beaches, unspoilt natural landscapes and imposing cliffs: Cape Malfatano with its 16th century tower and Cape Spartivento, the southernmost point of Sardinia. Chia boasts some of the most beautiful beaches in southern Sardinia.
day 5 - Day at leisure in Chia or hike along a cliff top Roman road
Spend your day exploring the renowned beaches of Chia. The sleepy village of Chia is set back from the sea, but it gives its name to a number of pristine bays stretching from Bithya, once a sacred Phoenician site, to Capo Spartivento. Within a short distant you'll find some amazing spots: Cala Cipolla, Su Giudeu and Campana.
Alternatively you can hike along the cliff top Roman road from Sa Colonia beach to Cala dei Pini.
day 6 - Cycle to Pula (23km/14.5mi)
A short ride to Pula, the final destination of the trip. Don't miss the beach of Santa Margherita along the way!
day 7 - Loop cycle to visit Nora, an ancient Phoenician archaeological site (20km/12.5mi)
Optional loop in the countryside around Pula or head straight to Nora to visit the ancient Phoenician settlement - or simply play on the beach with your kids.
day 8 - Trip concludes Pula
The trip concludes after breakfast.
