Hike to Pikey Peak
Enjoy trekking in a less trodden trail in the Lower Khumbu region
Take in the amazing views of some of the tallest mountains in the Himalayas
Discover the allure of Nepal’s Lower Khumbu region on the private, eleven-day Pikey Peak Trek—a hidden gem ideal for young adults eager for authentic adventure. Begin your guided trek with a scenic drive to Bamti Bhandar in eastern Ramechhap, then hike through mountain villages like Golla and Namkheli, soaking in the calm rhythms of rural life.
Reach Pikey Peak Base Camp at 3,600 meters before summiting the 4,070-meter peak, where surreal views of the world’s highest mountains—Everest, Dhaulagiri, Makalu, Kanchenjunga, and more—await. The descent unveils more cultural treasures, including Thupten Chholing Monastery, a living center of Tibetan Buddhist practice.
Capping off your trip, enjoy a free day in Kathmandu to reflect or explore. The unique selling point: a blend of dramatic Himalayan panoramas and immersive cultural encounters, all within an accessible, crowd-free trek through Nepal’s scenic heartland.
Meet our representatives on landing at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu and transfer to your hotel. Stay overnight in the city.
You will catch the bus heading out of Kathmandu early in the morning today, at around 6:00 am. Spend seven to eight hours on road to reach Bamti Bhandar, located 235 km away from Kathmandu in Ramechhap district. A Sherpa settlement, Bamti Bhandar lies 2,990 m above sea level.
Time to kick some dirt. The final destination of the day is Namkheli, where you will reach after a seven to eight hour hike, including a lunch break in Thadakhola, around three hours further from Bamti Bhandar.
Today you will enter into Solukhumbu district upon crossing Likhu Khola, a left tributary of the Sun Koshi River.
Spend around four hours on trail today to reach Golla, a small settlement with three monasteries dedicated to Tibetan Buddhism. The majority of people in Golla belong to the Gwale caste of Sherpa community.
Your journey continues through jungles and offers plenty of opportunities to spot a variety of wild animals and birds. You will reach Naaur Danda after three hours of trek. From this point, it takes three more hours of uphill journey on foot to reach Pikey Peak Base Camp, situated at an elevation of 3,600 m.
Jump off your bed early in the morning and put on warm clothes before heading for Pikey Peak. It takes about an hour more to reach the highlight of this trip.
Although 4,000 metres above sea level, Pikey Peak offers magnificent views of some of the highest peaks in the Himalayas including Dhaulagiri, Everest, Makalu, Kanchenjunga, Ama Dablam, Lhotse, Nupatse, Gaurisankhar and Langtang.
Take in the amazing views before it is time to head down. Your breakfast will be arranged at Jarsabhanjyang. Continue to Junbesi after that. Junbesi is considered to be one of the most beautiful Sherpa villages in high hills. Nearly three thousand metres above sea level, this village is home to an ancient Buddhist monastery and was part of the old Everest trekking route before Lukla airport came into existence.
Spend a day learning more about the Tibetan Buddhist heritage of this area with a visit to Thupten Chholing Monastery. Founded by His Holiness Thrulsik Rinpoche in the 1960s after fleeing Tibet, this monastery is home to 700 resident monks and nuns. You are free for the rest of the day.
Continue your journey after breakfast. It takes around three hours to reach Chiwong Monastery from Junbesi with Phaplu airport further three hours away.
The monastery is situated over a cliff at an altitude of 2,750 m and, over the years, has hosted important figures in Tibetan Buddhism. Mani Rimdu festival is celebrated in the monastery in October every year to mark the victory of Buddhism over the ancient Bon religion.
Your day ends on reaching Phaplu (2,400 m).
An eight-hour drive from Phaplu brings you to Kathmandu. We can even arrange a flight from Phaplu to Kathmandu at an additional cost if you want to.
Today is your free day in Kathmandu. Spend the day exploring the city on your own. Do some last-minute shopping if you want to.
We hope you have had an experience of a lifetime in the Himalayas. One of our representatives will pick you up from the hotel and drop you at the airport about three hours before your departure flight. We hope to see you again. Have a safe flight back home.
