From Lake Maggiore, there's an optional scenic rail journey to lakeside Locarno in Switzerland via the Centovalli and in Milan there's the opportunity to enjoy a journey on the iconic Bernina Express to St Moritz. End your Italian adventure with two nights in Italy's fashion capital, Milan.

day 1 - Milan to Lake Maggiore

Milan - Stresa (Lake Maggiore). Welcome to Italy! Private transfer from Milan airport to your hotel in Stresa, on the shore of Lake Maggiore. This is Italy's second-largest lake, shared with Switzerland, known for its colourful villages, picturesque islands and mild climate.

day 2 - Optional Centovalli Rail Journey to Locarno

Spend a day at leisure by the lake or book an optional rail journey to Locarno. Take the picturesque Centovalli rail journey from Domodossola to the Swiss city of Locarno. The journey takes you through the stunning Centovalli ("One Hundred Valleys"), passing deep gorges and waterfalls, crossing alpine meadows and towering bridges. When you reach the Locarno on the Swiss shores of Lake Maggiore you'll have some time to explore before returning to Stresa.

day 3 - Lake Maggiore to Lake Como

Stresa - Como (Lake Como). Say goodbye to Lake Maggiore and take the first class train from Stresa to Como (via Milan). You'll be staying in the city of Como, located at the far south of the lake, at the tip of one of the forks in the unique upside-down Y shape of Lake Como. This evening is free for you to head out for a walk along the shoreline, or to ride the funicular up to Brunate for panoramic views over Lake Como.

day 4 - Optional Lugano & Bellagio

Lake Como, the third-largest lake in Italy, is a glamorous destination known for its dramatic alpine backdrop, charming lakeside villages, and lavish villas that have long attracted A-list celebrities, including George Clooney and Madonna. The day is free for you to relax and explore the lake at your own leisure, making use of the regular ferry services between lakeside towns.

Alternatively, you can join us for an optional full-day tour from Como that lets you explore two countries and two lakes. Travel by coach with an expert English-speaking tour manager to the Swiss town of Lugano, where you can stroll through the quaint city centre, sample Swiss chocolate, and enjoy lunch. Continue to Cadenabbia, a peaceful village once frequented by Queen Victoria and Tsar Nicholas I, and board a panoramic cruise to Bellagio, famed for its romantic setting and elegant gardens. End the day with a scenic ferry ride across Lake Como, taking in breathtaking views from the water before returning to your base.

day 5 - Lake Garda

Como - Peschiera del Garda (Lake Garda). This morning head to your third and final Italian lake, taking a the train from Como to Peschiera del Garda (via Milan). Your hotel is located in Palazzo del Garda, on Lake Garda's southern shore. Here you can spend the afternoon and evening at leisure, enjoying your beautiful surroundings.

The largest lake in Italy, Lake Garda offers a stunning blend of natural beauty and cultural richness that appeals to visitors of all kinds. The lake’s southern region has olive groves, Roman architecture and lakeside beaches, while the north is characterised by its dramatic scenery, hemmed in on both sides by the majestic Alps.

day 6 - Milan

Peschiera del Garda - Milan. Make your way to Peschiera del Garda train station and take the high speed train back to Milan. The spiritual home of Italian fashion, Milan is where some of the world’s best-known designer labels are based and where shoppers can take their pick of high-end boutiques. It also serves up a feast of cultural riches, with stunning architecture like the Duomo, with its abundance of spires, pinnacles and statues. Ascend to the roof for views across the city rooftops and the hills beyond, and then take the short stroll opposite to the Galleria, a remarkable 19th-century glass-dome arcade of shops and restaurants.

day 7 - Free day in Milan or optional Bernina Express

Spend the day at leisure exploring Milan or book an optional Bernina Express tour.

A day of adventure awaits if you embark the iconic Bernina Express for a spectacular train journey to St. Moritz, passing through the Poschiavo Valley and the Engadin. Enjoy incredible sights of majestic mountains and quaint little towns as you trundle over the Brusio spiral viaduct, in the Swiss canton of Graubünden, and onto the magical Bernina Pass. Before reaching St. Moritz, you’ll savour incredible views of Lake Bianco and its shield of the snowcapped Morteratsch Glacier.
