Leave for Sundarijal (1350 m) in the morning. The trail climbs through forests to reach a reservoir with its dam and pipelines. The first settlement that you will come across today is Mulkharka. Walk along a ridge and through a forest of oak and rhododendron trees to reach Chisapani. Stay overnight at a guesthouse.
Start your journey after breakfast. From Chisapani, the trail leads to Pati Bhanjyang (1,770m), a picturesque village with excellent mountain views, from where it heads north through brahmin and chhetri villages to reach the Sherpa village of Thakuni Bhanjyang.
A steep incline and a further 200-metre climb through a stairway leads you to the top of Jhogin Danda (2,470 m). Your day comes to an end on reaching Gul Bhanjyang.
An uphill journey from Gul Bhanjyang leads to another pass at 2,620 m.The trail steadily rises through oak forests while offering excellent views of mountains and the Helambu Valley. Following a ridgeline, the trail continues to Magen Goth from where the view of Langtang and Gosaikunda peaks is stunning.
Your final destination of the day is Tharipati (3,490 m). Today's trail is considered one of the best ridge-line walks in Nepal. The trail to Gosaikunda branches off north-west from here. There is a steep incline above the village that leads to a hilltop offering panoramic views of the Langtang Range. Stay overnight in a lodge.
Take the route east from Tharipati after breakfast. The trail rapidly descends down a ravine through a small Sherpa village of Malemchigaon (2,530 m). It moves further downhill all the way to Malenchi Khola before the long climb on the other side of the valley starts.
Tarkeghyang is the largest village in the Helambu region. Located at an altitude of 2,620 m, Tarkeghyang offers excellent views of Jugal and Numbur peaks. The narrow cobbled lanes and tightly packed houses of Tarkeghyang resemble the high-altitude villages of Mustang and Dolpo. Tarkeghyang also boasts an 18th century gompa. This village is popularly known as Helambu.
The journey to Shermathang takes around four hours. The trails gently descend through a beautiful forest and travels through a relatively even surface to reach the final destination of the day, Shermathang, which is also the centre of an important apple-growing area from where fantastic views of the Himalayas can be seen.
Continue your journey downhill through meadows and cultivated fields to reach Melamchi Pul Bazaar. The village is mostly inhabited by the Sherpa people. From here a bus will take you to Kathmandu. Check into your hotel on arrival.
