Langtang Valley Trek is a treasure for young adults and seasoned travelers eager to explore the tranquil beauty north of Kathmandu. Nestled between towering Himalayan ranges, this circuit blends mountain grandeur with rich cultural encounters.

Highlights include trekking through vibrant rhododendron and bamboo forests, soaking in hot springs, and spotting wildlife like red pandas and exotic birds. The route passes Tamang villages, Langtang Village, and the friendly Sherpa settlement near Kyanjing Gompa, where Himalayan views peak at their finest.

At Gosainkunda lake, trekkers witness unforgettable sunrises before crossing the Laurebinayak pass (4,609m). Designed for those able to walk 5–6 hours daily, the tour’s unique selling point is its harmonious blend of natural splendor and cultural immersion—making for a richly rewarding adventure in Nepal’s heartland.

day 1 - Drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi (1,450m)

We start early in the morning after breakfast and start our drive up to Syabrubeshi which takes about 7 -8 hours. We drive along the scenic banks of Trishuli River with beautiful views of valleys, meadows, rivers and mountains. After reaching the destination at 1460m, we will check-in to the hotel and spend the night there.

day 2 - Trek from Syabrubesi to Lama Hotel (2,480m)

The trek for the day starts right after breakfast. At first the trail ascends for about 2 hours and then a climb for an hour takes us to a bamboo village where we will enjoy our lunch. After that we walk through leveled trails witnessing a number of bird species in the area as well as beehives hanging on the cliffs. We will have to ascend a steep climb again to finally reach the Lama Hotel where we will stay the night.

day 3 - Trek from Lama Hotel to Langtang Village (3,540m)

A pleasant walk through the rhododendron and pine forests for 3 hours takes us to Ghoda Tabela. After having lunch here, we can enjoy the dense forests and herbs in the area. Another 3 hours walk through a scenic trail finally takes us to the Langtang valley where we will spend the night.

day 4 - Trek from Langtang Village to Kyanjin Gompa (3,900m)

Today is more like a leisure day as we will take a leisurely walk for 2 -3 hours to visit the Kyangjin Gompa at an altitude of 3817m. The final destination of the trek, the Gompa is a serene and beautiful place that allows us to have the scenic views of Mt. Ganchhenpo and Mt. Langtang Lirung. The cheese factory, the monasteries and the traditional local houses are the main attractions of this short trip.

day 5 - Kyanjin Gompa Acclimatization and Exploration Day

This day is dedicated to indulging in the natural beauty and serenity of the Gompa area. We can enjoy the splendid mountain views as well as relish in the peaceful environment. We can also take a climb up to the Tsergo Ri at 5150m and also reach the Langtang glacier and the beautiful yak pasture called Langshisha Kharka. This quite tough day. We will follow the same trail back to Kyanjin Gompa and spend the night in the same hotel.

day 6 - Trek from Kyanjin Gompa to Rimche (2,350m)

On this day we will have a pleasant trek trekking our steps back to Rimche from Kyanjin Gompa through the scenic trail. Second last day of the Langtang trek. Its is lot easier to walk down rather then going up. You will enjoy the walk back.

day 7 - Trek from Rimche to Syabrubensi (1,450m)

On this day, we again trek back our steps through the Bamboo and rhododendron forests to finally reach Syabrubeshi. This not a long day of walk it takes only 4-5 hour. Enjoy the night at one of the local lodge at Sybrubesi. Enjoy the last dinner together with guide and porter. As you next day have bus ride back to Kathmandu.

day 8 - Drive Back to Kathmandu.

Early in the morning after breakfast, we start our journey back to Kathmandu. We can enjoy the evening traveling around the tourism spots in the capital city or shopping for souvenirs in Thamel.

Like hiking with friends

My husband and I just completed the 8-day Langtang Valley trek! We were guided by the amazing expert Ramesh, and our superman porter (and skillful jeep driver) Suresh. We had such a great time and are feeling very accomplished. We feel fortunate to have had these fellows with us as they made the trip so much more fun and interesting. They were patient, funny and never seemed annoyed at my very slow rate of both ascent and descent. Ramesh guided my husband Kevin up Tsergo Ri at an early hour while Suresh showed me around Kenjin Gompa and the yak cheese factory, and helped me while I had some mild altitude sickness. I felt like we were traveling with pals rather than hired hands. The trek itself was amazing. We had perfect weather and made excellent time despite my slowness! We ended up finishing a day early, and so on Ramesh’s suggestion we headed to Chisopani so we could ring in the new year with a mountain sunrise. It ended up being cold and cloudy, but keeping warm at the campfire talking with the guys was one of my most memorable moments of the trip. Langtang Valley trek

Trekking is very beautiful, easy and with a variety of landscapes. Highly recommended to use the jeep instead of the public transportation. Tea Houses have very high standard compare to other areas, no need to pack big luggage.

Challenging trek.

Recommended for novice trekkers but quite challenging for older people with 1000m elevation gain each day on rough trails. Poles are a "must have". Trail opens up after 2nd day which is great for viewing the scenery. Views in Kyanjin spectacular. Primitive lodgings, especially at Lama Hotel. Expect to share squattie toilets and have few western comforts such as lighting, hot water etc. Take water purification tablets and water bladders since all supplies (including mineral water) are packed in by donkeys or porters. Road to Syabrubesi is terrible so take a reliable jeep rather than the bus. Expect at least 1 flat tire each way.
