From a thrilling flight into Lukla, your route takes you through lush forests, vibrant Sherpa villages, and along glacial rivers, gradually ascending to the dramatic heights of Kala Patthar for unparalleled views of Everest and its neighboring giants. Along the way, immerse yourself in the spiritual ambiance of Buddhist monasteries and colorful prayer flags that line the trails. The unique highlight of this trip is the profound sense of achievement and connection to mountaineering history you’ll feel as you stand at the base of the world’s tallest peak.
We will meet you at the airport in Kathmandu and drive you to the hotel. Today, you will have the opportunity to met your tour guide and ask any questions you may have.
Start your day with a short, 40-minute flight from Kathmandu to Lukla followed by a short hike to Phakding. Lukla is the gateway to the Khumbu (Everest) region and is one of the highest airports in the world.
Make your way to Sagarmatha National Park. Cross a suspension bridge to reach the village of Jhorsalle from where the trail continues along Dudh Kosi and Bhote Kosi rivers until it ascends steeply to Namche Bazaar.
Namche is a vibrant market town at the present, with many good restaurants and hotels offering trekkers a variety of accommodation and food. Today is an acclimatization day, which means you can rest and relax in Namche or explore the town and its surrounding areas.
Tengboche is home to the largest monastery in the Everest region. If you are lucky, you might even get the chance to observe a Buddhist religious ceremony being performed in the monastery. But what most trekkers are really interested in when it comes to Tengboche are the out-of-this-world, panoramic views from of mountains from the monastery.
If the day is clear, you will see Mount Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Ama Dablam and Thamserku among other mountains.
The journey today is short, barely taking four hours to cover. But since you are at a higher altitude, it is a good idea to pay close attention to the way your body is functioning and inform your trekking guide if you feel any difficulty.
The trail today passes through forests of conifers and rhododendron trees. Finally, cross the Imja River to reach Dingboche, a picturesque village set amid fields of barley, buckwheat and potatoes.
There is another acclimatization today on the itinerary before you push to a higher altitude. If you want to, you can climb the ridge behind the village to see stunning views of the fifth highest mountain in the world, Mount Makalu, as well as the Khumbu River Valley.
The trail travels through fields before crossing the Khumbu River to a site where rocks and sediments have been deposited by the Khumbu Glacier. Then there is a steep climb up a rocky trail to the top of moraines.
See memorial chortens dedicated to the climbers who died trying to conquer Everest. See Pumori, Lingerten and Khumbutse mountains.
Gorakshep was the original base camp for climbers heading out to summit Mount Everest in the 1950's. Today, it is the last stop for trekkers before the current Everest Base Camp, where you will reach in the afternoon.
Nothing can beat the views of the Himalayas from Kala Patthar. Wake up early in he morning and clamber up to Kala Patthar. See the entire Himalayas in the Khumbu region and beyond including, of course, Mount Everest. After soaking up the views, its time to descend to Pheriche.
The trail today is uneven and takes you through rhododendron and juniper forests and past the Dudh Kosi River. Pheasants, mountain goats and a wide variety of birds and animals that you see will remind you that you are inside a national park.
Enjoy spectacular views of Ama Dablam, Thamserku and Nuptse all along. The journey comes to an end on reaching Namche Bazaar.
This is your final day in the mountains. As you descend, follow the trail along the Dudh Koshi River to reach Lukla.
Take the short return flight to Kathmandu where we will transfer you to your hotel on arrival. Celebrate your accomplishment tonight with a farewell dinner.
We will drive you to the airport for your flight home.
