Terry was a fantastic guide and Steve was a really good bus driver. The tour was well organised with each stop having two nights in the same place which makes it easier for when you’re getting on and off the bus. the day trips were really well done probably the only thing I would say is that it needs to have two nights in York Because that is just such a great place and maybe the Newmarket horse racing Museum was not worth the effort. Lincoln was ok but probably just a stop over not a two night stay.
Pro: Very good tour guide and driver. Very knowledgeable and felt very safe in their company. Pro: Unique hotels but all should have air-conditioning. Pro: Interesting sites but a bit repetitive. Maybe break up the trip with an activity like a cooking class or a class on how thatched roofs are made or learn about a unique feature/craft of the area. Pro: All our luggage was handled by our guide which was greatly appreciated. Suggestions: 1. Edinburgh is a small enough and historical city that some time should have been dedicated to this city. 2. The 1st day of the tour should start earlier than 6pm. Perhaps 3-4pm introductions followed by a walking tour and dinner at a nice restaurant or local pub. Similarly, the last day of the tour should end after breakfast (not 3pm.) At this point in the journey, most travelers appeared ready to say their good-byes earlier. 3. I feel the group is small enough that if we stop at an interesting village and we would like to visit longer, a vote should be an option to perhaps shorter the time spent at the next destination in order to continue remaining at the current location. 4. Final Departures were haphazard in London and seemed very chaotic. Perhaps selecting another city or section of London (where transportation to the airport or another hotel for those extending their stay) would have been less stressful. We enjoyed our trip and met very nice people along the way. I hope my comments are not taken as criticism but rather are embodied as a fresher look at an established tour.
Just finished Enchanting Rastern England and there was a lot of motorway involved mainly due to the distance that was covered. Each day we saw amazing things but for me personally too many cathedrals -some higlhlights for me punting in Cambridge , Whitby, bombadier command, oh to many to name. The coach maybe a bit squashed for 16 or more not much space for hand luggage. The intercom system was quite static making it difficult for tour guide at times Accommodation was awesome a real wow factor Place we stayed at in Lincoln my room was very hot and stuffy mind you we were on very high temps All in all trip was great would recommend
Interesting and picturesque villages. A great tour.
Terry and Steve were the best tour team…Steve was so careful and skilled As our driver. Terry was absolutely the best guide anyone could hope for, he watched out for every single member of the touring group. We absolutely enjoyed his knowledge imparted in an interesting and engaging manner. We would highly recommend this tour and team to anyone looking for a great tour.
I would highly recommend Back Road Tours. It was great driving on country roads and through country villages and towns. It was more adventurous than cities. I liked the smaller group (14) Our guide, Ed was very knowledgeable about history and interesting to listen to. He was also very caring and wanted the best for us. Vince, our bus driver was a great driver and took us to very interesting places without any issues. The accommodation was very comfortable and the meals at the hotels were top class. I found the price of the tour very reasonable for the quality of service. I would highly recommend Back Road Tours. Thank you.
Fantastic tour! Staff are extremely knowledgeable, kind and helpful. They are fun to be around. Thankyou Blue-Roads.
Excellent tour guide and driver...stayed in some fantastic motels. The Buxton Crescent and thermal spa we experienced lots of u happy staff and wet towels were folded and left on our bed to reuse...do not recommend this stay here. Otherwise everything else was great.
We saw a varied selection of attractions on the tour. A good variety. Unfortunately we weren't able to visit Sandringham but that was beyond the control of our tour. Our accommodation was excellent. The hotel rooms and the beds met every expectation and more. The meals that were supplied were good although I think sometimes the restaurants tried too hard to be fancy. Some 'plain' food (ie. a basic salad) would have been welcome.
Blue Roads Enchanting Eastern England was an enjoyable and interesting tour, with a good, knowledgeable and funny tour director Gideon, and an excellent driver, Simon. This was my second Blue Roads tour, and I really like that they go to some different places and locations not on the bigger tour itineraries.
Giovanni and Ash were great. I was amazed at Gio’s preparation and narration and “Ash’s” driving skills especially the many tight, “Blue-Roads” situations. My wife and I had a couple of hotel issues that Gio was very helpful in resolving.
We did the Enchanting Eastern England tour. Thoroughly enjoyed it, although you do need some fitness. Lots of walking and trying to keep up with guide. However, it was well-worth it. The guide was very knowledgeable. Bus driver was also extremely courteous and great to talk to. Bus was always clean. Saw plenty of cathedrals, visited lots of places and the accommodation was great. Some places we stayed were really amazing, others were fine. Bus genuinely took us on the Blue-Roads. Very good quality trip overall.
Both guide and driver were exceptional in their knowledge and very accommodating when emergency assistance was needed
Adequate number of days. Excellent tour leader in Charlie. Provided wonderful regional treats throughout the tour.
