We had a great day in Sintra with our driver Bruno- he was very professional. He timed the site visits perfectly so we were easily able to spend time at the Moorish Castle, Pena Palace, and Quinta da Regaleira in one day, with a break for a delicious lunch in Sintra and a stop to wander in town. He even treated us to our first taste of Ginjinha! Thank you, Bruno for an unforgettable day to a beautiful place!
Visit Fatima, Nazare and Obidos and see all the highlights on this full-day trip from Lisbon.
We'll drive to Fatima through the agricultural lands of Ribatejo. Once there, experience life as a pilgrim at the Sanctuary of Fatima, a legendary and important Christian site that receives approximately 5 million visitors each year. Also in Fatima, be awed by the gothic grandeur of the 14th-century Batalha Monastery, a UNESCO world heritage site.
Next, we'll head to Nazare. The Nazare Cliffs provide an overwhelming view of the Atlantic Ocean; a perfect photo opportunity! Be spoiled for choice at lunchtime, there is a wonderful variety of restaurants and snack bars in this little fishing town. Enjoy the sea breeze as we drive along the Atlantic coast, passing gorgeous cliffs and the picturesque villages of Foz do Arelho and São Martinho do Porto. We'll stop for pictures at some gorgeous lookout points.
After Nazare, we will drive along the lagoon of Obidos and the agricultural fields. Fall in love with Obidos, a colourful and romantic little village. Its winding streets, medieval structures, castle walls and handicraft shops all make this stop the highlight of the trip for many people. Travel back in time to the days of the Knights Templar with this 8-hour, guided tour. Join us as we visit some of the most important monuments associated with one of the most intriguing and enigmatic military orders the world has ever seen. The order of the Knights Templar was founded at the beginning of the 12th century for the protection of the Holy Sepulchre and of Christian pilgrims on their way to the Holy land.
We will pick you up at your hotel or accommodation in Lisbon and drive you to the Convent of Christ, originally a Templar stronghold that later became a Roman Catholic convent after this military order ceased to exist in the 14th century. Explore the convent and learn more about the history of the Templars.
Also see the magnificent castle of Almourol, a medieval castle atop an islet in the middle of the River Tagus. This castle was part of the defensive line of the Templars and acted as their stronghold during the Portuguese Reconquista.
Get the chance to enjoy queijinhos do ceu, a traditional Portuguese sweet, along the way. We will drop you off at your hotel or accommodation after the trip is over.
