The "Everest Base Camp – Kalapathar Trek" is a 12-day guided journey designed for young adults and seasoned trekkers eager to experience the legendary trails of Nepal. Starting with a scenic flight from Kathmandu to Lukla, you’ll trek through vibrant Sherpa villages like Tengboche and Dingboche, ascend high-altitude meadows, and acclimatize in bustling Namche Bazaar.

The highlight is reaching Everest Base Camp, with panoramic views of the Khumbu Icefall, followed by the ultimate sunrise from Kala Patthar—arguably the best vantage point for the majestic Himalayas. Along the way, you’ll encounter Buddhist monasteries, diverse wildlife, and the rich culture of the Everest region.

This trekking trip’s unique edge is its expertly paced itinerary for acclimatization, ensuring an enjoyable and safe adventure for those seeking both challenge and cultural immersion. Accommodation, transport, and meals are included, so you can focus on the climb and the incredible scenery.

day 1 - Kathmandu - Lukla - Phakding

Board a 30-minute flight to Lukla from Kathmandu early in the morning. In case the weather is good, you can enjoy great views of the magnificent Himalayas during the flight. Arrive at Lukla Airport and meet your porter, if you have booked one (own expense).

Enjoy a hearty breakfast in Lukla and start the trek. Head north from the airstrip and cross the suspension bridge on the Thado Koshi River. Enjoy lovely views of Kusum Kanguru

Mountain. Take the trail that goes towards Ghat (2,590m).

Your destination of the day is Phakding, where you will reach after a fairly easy, 3-hour walk. Stay overnight in Phakding.

day 2 - Phakding - Namche Bazaar

Trek through the Dudh Koshi River Valley. Cross the river five times on the way to Namche. Continue your ascent upon crossing the river for the last time. In case the day is clear, you can enjoy great views of Mount Everest today.

Reach Jorsale, a small village in the Khumbu region that is also an entry point to Sagarmatha National Park. Get your permits verified and continue your journey to Namche Bazaar (3,440m). In case the day is clear, you will enjoy mesmerizing view of Mt Everest. Stay overnight in Namche, the centre of trade in the Khumbu region.

day 3 - Namche Bazaar: acclimatization day

Take rest today and allow your body to acclimatize to the altitude. Either stay in your hotel and relax or go for an optional hike to the villages of Khunde and Khumjung, returning to Namche via the famous Everest View Hotel.

day 4 - Namche Bazaar - Tengboche

Your route for today weaves in and out of valleys, past small ups and downs and through the village of Sanasa, from where it drops down to Phunkithanga. Continue your uphill journey through this point as the trail climbs steeply through pine forests to reach the famous Tengboche Monastery (3870m).

The view from the monastery rightly deserves to be regarded as among the world's most magnificent. Along with the magnificent Everest, you can also see Kwangde Peak, Tawachee, Nuptse, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, Kangtega and Thamserku. Spend your night in Tengboche.

day 5 - Tengboche - Dingboche

Travel through a forest before crossing the Imja River. Reach the village of Pangboche. The route continues through summer pastures to Dingboche (4,410 m), where you will spend your night. Today is an easy day with just 3-4 hours of walking.

day 6 - Dingboche (acclimatization)

Stay in Dingboche for a day and allow your body to adapt to the changing altitude. You have the option of booking a hike up to Chhukung if you are interested in it. The hike will start at around 8:30 in the morning after breakfast.

The trek up to Chhukung is not that difficult. Enjoy great views of the mountains, specially that of Ama Dablam. It is a quick trip back down to Dingboche for the night. You might encounter strong winds while returning.

day 7 - Dingboche - Lobuche

Start with a gentle climb for about one and a half hours. Reach Thugla, leaving behind the Trekkers Aid Post at Pheriche. A western volunteer doctor supported by The Himalayan Rescue Association is stationed here and offers treatment and consultation to trekkers travelling through this route.

Have your lunch at a teahouse in Thugla. Time to conquer the steepest section of today's journey. Climb uphill for one and a half hour. The higher you move the better the views get. Descend down highland pastures to reach Lobuche. Head for your accommodation. Today's trek lasts for about 4-5 hours.

day 8 - Lobuche - Gorakshep & Everest Base Camp

Hike for 2 hours to reach the 5,164-meter-high settlement of Gorakshep. Regarded as one of the world's highest places of permanent human settlement, the settlement is located on a frozen lakebed. Have your lunch and continue your journey to Everest Base Camp.

Navigate a side ridge of the Khumbu Glacier to reach the base camp, located at an altitude of 5,364 metres. Enjoy great views of the glacier as well as the Khumbu Icefall. Walk back to Gorakshep.

day 9 - Gorakshep to Kala Patthar & back to Pheriche

The early morning walk to Kala Patthar from Gorakshep takes approximately 2 hours. Enjoy amazingl views of the mountains, including the tallest one in the world, from Kala Patthar. Trace your steps back to Gorakshep in the afternoon. Have your lunch before heading downhill to Pheriche.

day 10 - Pheriche - Namche Bazaar

Follow the trail that you traversed a few days earlier. An hour's climb from Debuche takes you to Tengboche and from Tengboche you descend to Phunkithanga, from where you make your final climb towards Namche Bazaar.

Enjoy some last-minute close-up views of the mountains along the way. Stay tonight in Namche.

day 11 - Namche Bazaar - Lukla

It is approximately a 7-hour, mostly downhill trek from Namche to Lukla. Stay in Lukla and prepare for your flight tomorrow.

Yes, I highly recommend this company. A huge thank you Chhatra, Ram, Raju, Raj, and the phenomenal driver who’s name I missed—for an excellent trip from December 19, 2021 to January 3, 2022. I completed the Everest Base Camp trek from 12/20-12/31 and added on two additional day tours in Kathmandu. The trek was incredible and led by Ram, an energetic senior guide, and Raj, a friendly porter. Stunning scenery and an accomplishment I’ll never forget!! On my day tours in Kathmandu, Raju filled my brain with history and cultural insights, while adapting our stops to my interests and selecting great rooftop restaurants. Chhatra was super responsive to all my questions and concerns regarding the trip and COVID-19 logistics. He arranged a PCR test at my hotel for my return to the United States and Raju walked me through picking up the results at the airport and double checking the report details. Top notch transfer service as well. The staff were attentive and provided a safe first experience in Nepal for me, a female and solo traveler. Looking forward to booking my next trek to the Annapurna region!!

The trek of a lifetime

This was an amazing trek. My guide, Gelu Tamang, was the best. He was personable, knowledgeable, helpful, and hilarious, and we became good friends over the 12 days of the trek. Count yourself lucky if you get to trek with Gelu. Chhatra did a very good job making arrangements for the trek, including permits and flights.
