It would be great if the start and end accomodation was a little closer to their respective capital cities. Everything else was awesome.
We loved the tour. It was great to see the different locations of the battles and from different country perspectives. Our guide was fantastic and very helpful and we would love to do more tours of Europe especially if was our guide. Only comment would be if possible that accommodation be closer to the towns so that when there is free time it is easily accessible by foot. In saying that though the quality of the accommodation was wonderful. Thank you for a wonderful holiday
The whole tour was too rushed, every Cemetery & Memorial we were rushed. Hotel room bathrooms with mould, no bedding for adult sons bed in some places. TD was reading from a book when explaining each of our stops, it appeared unprofessional and lacked knowledge. Trafalgar booked our airline tickets, without coinciding with transfers. We are a little disappointed with this tour. Met great people and we did enjoy it.
The group leader was very personable and knowledgeable. And our coach driver was amazing navigating through many narrow roads to get us where we needed to go.
A good pace and well sequenced itinerary. Very moving even for someone like myself who has no direct connection of either war. Would highly recommend the tour
Excellent and very enjoyable trip, educational, very moving at times, well worth doing
Everything was fantastic. Well planned. The planned food stops other than breakfasts were not always good quality. The rest of the tour made up for that. The location of the hotel in Paris was very far from the sites so when I stayed an extra day it was hard to navigate. Very knowledgable guide. He knew when to start and stop talking. He also had great service skills remembering details about the guests that made it easier for their experience. Our drivers were excellent. The guide in London was knowledgable as well but could not help himself from bashing Trump. Not professional.
The tour was fantastic. It went to all of the Canadian sites (except Dieppe). We were at several Aussie sites, and a few American sites as well Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. Our driver was amazing. How she managed to navigate down some of the narrow streets, I’ll never know. I would recommend this tour for people interested in WWI and II. This was the only tour that I could find that covered both wars and in the summer months. My only two suggestions would be buy any souvenirs for Beaumont-Hamel at Vimy (I’d wish I’d known). Secondly, when visiting Notre-Dame, you must be covered (no bare shoulders or short shorts). People did not find out until they were in line and had not been warned.
We planned this trip for 2 years to save plus added additional days at the beginning and the end to see more of London and Paris . Our son graduated from high school this summer and this was his dream to see Vimy Ridge and to follow his great great grandfather’s footsteps as two served in World War 1 and his great grandfather in World War Two. Plus to go as a family time together. our host was amazing and the bus driver was outstanding and accommodating. The group of 39 were friendly and we all had lots of fun we all got along great.
Despite the unexpected heat of the trip in mid June, my father and I had a wonderful time touring the old battlefields and museums of so much history.
Fabulous, busy and extensive. Only constructive comment is visiting cathdreals and gardens on bastille day in paris cld have been better rethought given we a battlefields tour.
The Eleven day tour of WW1 and WW2 sights was incredible Every day was packed with sights. The tour guide was very informative and made sure everyone was included. He also kept us informed if there was anything might be a problem If it was possible he would also add something extra
Some of the hotels did not have adequate air conditioning other than that driver was excellent and was extremely knowledgeable about the WW1 and WW2 and went out of his way to accommodate everyone.
Very intense tour of the wars. Very detailed in showing all the different museums and cemetery.
A very good tour of many WW1 and WW2 Historical locations and some other past events. Excellently led by the Tour Director and Coach Driver . With a lot of Tour guides inserted in for special walking tours and locations using Vox earphones. Surprisingly all emotions came with the places we visit across London , Belgium ,Normandy, Ypres and Paris . The Coach was airconditioned and comfortable. Be prepared for loads of walking and stairs , European summers are hot, and lighten your luggage load. You will need to be serious about that. There are shops selling toiletries .Buy them when you get to the City. A good office backpack is handy. You don't need to have fashionable wardrobe but have neat attire for a few select nights. No one cares about your clothes choices. Use google wallet for boarding passes and debit cards and Google drive for documents, Google maps for following locations . Have about 200 Euro cash for tour guide gratuities and taxi tips. Swipe card works everywhere otherwise. I Didn't have any trouble or see , scammers. Learn some very basic language helps.
Great itinerary! This trip was for my husband and to complete his bucket list. It exceeded and was much more than we ever hoped for.
Have used Trafalger many times. The sites were excellent and more than I imagined. Would recommend the trip. However, this seemed the least organized. Travelers were an older bunch and could have used some additional details sometimes. Excellent local guides, average primary guide. Too much wasted time last day in Paris. Guide should have devised a way to visit Notre Dame cathedral. We were too far away from the site to go by ourselves — we could have been guided on a walk or the bus could have helped. In other cases, it would have helped to be given approximate time to walk to an area; we were simply told what time to return to bus.
Very informative enjoyable the tour guide was excellent. The tour was done on a easily maintained speed, so there was no hurrying, etc. which fit in with my capabilities.
I was disappointed with the time allocation for various destinations along this tour. For example, the the D-Day beaches: You were transported from them to a horse ranch in Bayeux. While in Bayeux, Trafalgar failed to allow you time to see the Bayeux tapestry. An exclusion that confused me as William the Orange's invasion of England was a monumental cultural, political and language event (the event captured in the tapestry). Furthermore, we did not see the famous Omaha statue, and then were allowed 1-hour to visit the America cemetery. At this point during the tour, I was cemeteried-out (you will see A LOT of cemeteries on this tour), and felt the American Cemetery had an outsized time allocation. What further poisoned my experience was we drove by several private museums that had recovered tanks from the D-Day beaches, and then spent an hour at another cemetery. One of the frustrating experiences. While you are in London, the bus tour doesn't add very much. You aren't permitted to see the inside of Westminster Abby, St. John's Cathedral, and you don't even get to visit Trafalgar Square, essentially getting only photo ops of Big Ben, and the ability to say, "I've seen that!" The exclusion of moment tickets was an recurrent issue (we weren't permitted to see the Juno beach museum for example), and it seems likely due to the tour cost than anything else. During the Normandy Cider optional tour the tour guide seemed very preoccupied with preventing our driver from punching overtime: They hurried us out of the farm before I could even attempt to buy it's cider. This was an experience far different from a previous Trafalgar tour which didn't feel rushed in this fashion. Furthermore, at one point we were seconds late for the bus, which was forced to move due to transit, and laws related to blocking it, inducing our Guide to be rude about our tardiness. Trafalgar needs to do better at picking hotels that accommodate large tour buses and parking requirements. On that note, all hotels were close to public transit (excepting London, which was a 15 minute walk). All hotels were outside the core of these cities, and I was very disappointed that because of a hotel change, we did not get an ability to see Caen whatsoever. Trafalgar did comp us a meal for the inconvenience but considering this may be a place I never again visit, it saddens me to know I did not experience Caen on my own as was intended/planned. My last bit of feedback has nothing to do with the tour composition but tour demographics. If you wish to take this tour and you are sub-50, don't. We felt like outcasts the entire time, and there was a comment by our Guide about 'people not having children nowadays....someone should do something about that.' A comment I've heard many times before, expressed by someone much older than I. I found it aggravating. Someone older than 60 would definitely love this tour given the typical demographics. If anything, reach out to Trafalgar and determine that before booking! The highlight for me was seeing the Vimy Ridge memorial and museum: We got very fortunate with weather! This tour does permit you to see many battlefields, but be warned that in many instances cemeteries are your destination. The best museum by far was the John Monash Centre--I'd recommend a visit even if it's not as apart of this tour. I was most impressed by the number of places were did see, and the three countries it took us to. I don't believe we would have visited Belgium on our own, so thank you Trafalgar for exposing us to Belgium.
A pilgrimage to Vimy and other sites was profoundly moving.
