Itinerary

The Manaslu trek is one of Nepal's best treks. If you have 17 days available for trekking in Nepal, we highly recommend this trek. It is challenging, especially the day of crossing the Larke pass at 5,135 m but if you are in reasonable shape, determined, and able to walk 6 hours a day, you can do this trek.

Manaslu is the eighth highest peak in the world, bordering the Gorkha and Manang districts in Nepal. It is just 64km East of the previously popular Annapurna treks. Literally, Manaslu is derived from Sanskrit with manasa means “Mountain of the spirit". The Manaslu region encompasses everything from sub tropical foothills to the arid Trans-Himalaya high pastures bordering Tibet.

The Manaslu trek opened only in 1991. Its popularity increased significantly when teahouses become available around 2009. The Manaslu region has no roads or alike and the trekking trails are excellent. This combined with a high variation in altitude starting from around 700 m and getting up to 5,135 m is the reason why the Manaslu trek today is preferred over the Annapurna trek.

After a 6 hours bus ride from Kathmandu, the trek begins Arughat. En-route the trek, you will not only see spectacular mountain scenery but can also visit several monasteries.

If you have 19 days available, you will not regret choosing this trek. If you are in doubt as to physical fitness we highly recommend adding a porter. 1 porter can carry up to 30 kgs and can thus be shared between 2 people.

We are looking forward to taking you on a fantastic trekking adventure.

Unforgettable Experience - Manaslu Circuit Trek

The Manaslu Circuit Trek is perfect for everyone who is looking for a variety of landscapes. You can find snowy mountains, alpine treks, hanging bridges, wild rivers and rhododendron forests on this route. We loved it and the trek as well as getting to know the Nepali culture by staying in the tea houses and getting the culture explained by our guide Ashok was unforgettable. Thank you to Ashok for the last 2 weeks for supporting and guiding us during this trek. You have became a great friend. Also many thanks to the tour operator for organizing everything and helping with every question! After arriving in Nepal we decided spontaneously to do the Manaslu Trek instead of the Annapurna Trek and this company made it possible to change everything and to provide us with a new program. We are more than happy for choosing this company.

Amazing experience on Manaslu Circuit

Me and my friend did the Manaslu Circuit trek with this tour company and it was indeed unique! Had an amazing experience with our experienced guide Dev Shrestha. His English is great and he’s full with knowledge. The whole paper process and the bureaucracy was smooth and wonderful. Highly recommend.

Amazing!

We had a fantastic time on our Manaslu circuit trek with our guide Raju. It was really easy and straightforward to book our trek, the company provided us with lots of information beforehand and were very responsive to our questions. They met us at the airport and organised everything for us. Our guide was amazing, and flexible and made sure we had a great time each day - he really looked after us, and we felt lucky to have him. Raju was very accommodating with some slight changes in the itinerary as we went along. The trek itself can be difficult at times, steep on some days with high elevations (we needed an extra acclimatisation day at one point and Raju was able to fit it into the itinerary with short notice). We’d recommend going over the itinerary with the guide before hand, they have excellent information on each village and day’s walk. We went in early April and were lucky with the weather and had some great mountain views, especially in the morning time. The villages we stayed in were lovely, and the people were always nice. The guesthouses get more basic and cold as you climb up, and the food is the same almost everywhere so might be an idea to some vitamins, supplements and snacks. One of us had issues with altitude sickness from 3000 metres up, so it is a good idea to take it slow and to be aware of that. Overall, we had a great time and would highly recommend both this local travel specialist and Raju!

Difficult trek with excellent company

Everything about this trip was great! Mr Khum was very responsive to all of my questions. Puran and Megendra were so helpful during the trek. Especially on the day we crossed Larkya Pass. The ascent was not too difficult but the descent was extremely hard for me. Puran helped me the entire way down, even slipping and falling just to help me. And Megendra offered to carry my bags on that day because I had food poisoning on top of the difficult hike. Overall I am really pleased with this trip, with the guides and porters being so friendly and helpful. I can't wait to plan for my next Nepal adventure!

Authentic Tibetan culture experience and amazing Manaslu circuit trek.

The trekking offers fantastic views of the best Annapurna and Manaslu region. It takes you through a relative off-the-beaten remote path, escape the masses, and see the beautiful landscapes, snow-capped mountains, high glacier lakes and spot the most stunning flora and fauna. Especially, the circuit passes many Nepalese and Tibetan cultural heritage sites, which gives you an authentic insight in the local Nepalese culture. One highlight to note is that the route is a lot less tourists, and this sets the trek apart from its busier neighbours the Annapurna Circuit and EBC. People said Manaslu Circuit is everything the Annapurna Circuit is, but it allows for more genuine trekking experience.

Definetly a unique experience!

I have finished the 18 days Manaslu trekking with this tour operator two weeks ago and I can only say it has been a fantastic and great experience! We had a great guide called Lakpa, telling us constantly about the country, its people, nature and mountains - but also the rest of the team was very friendly and helpful and made the trip definitely a wonderful adventure. Especially as we had the opportunity to talk to many other trekkers during the trip and hardly found anybody with a comparable well-informed and experienced guide! It's only a question of time till my next visit in Nepal!

A fantastic experience doing the Manaslu Circuit. Awesome impressions of both nature and people! The company was very helpful and supportive. The trek brought along some minor communicational issues but we always met ends. Thanks for helping making a dream come true!

Wonderful trek

We enjoyed trekking slowly with a wonderful local guide. On the way, there was a problem with my shoe, an issue that the guide was also able to help with. The trekking route is under development, but the old villages remain and this is definitely recommended as a trekking route that you will fully appreciate and enjoy.

Great experience: Manaslu Circuit trek with Raju.

From the start to the end of our Manaslu Circuit Trek everything was very well organised. What a great trek, especially after two days when there is no jeep road anymore. Raju is a very experienced tour guide and safety is always his first priority. Furthermore is Raju always upbeat and a real mountain lover. Highly recommend!

Incredible!

I hiked the Manaslu Circuit back in November as part of one of the group tours by this tour operator, as I was a lone female traveller. Despite being a small group of only 3, I had the most amazing time! The trail was interesting and not crowded with other trekkers, and the views were breathtaking. Our guide, Raju, was incredible, going above and beyond to make our experience as enjoyable as possible, whilst always putting our safety first. We also had two amazing porters, Abinash and Amir. I would highly recommend the Manaslu Circuit with this tour company, and Raju in particular, to anyone planning a trek in Nepal!

Manaslu Circuit trek with the most outstanding guide

My brother and I hiked the Manaslu circuit over 14 days with an incredible guide, Attam. He went above and beyond to make sure that we had a great trip. Highlights included staying at some of the smaller villages on the trail (which were less crowded), including Tal and Yak Kharke (where you stay in a farmhouse surrounded by freely roaming goats and cows). We loved hiking the Larkye La pass at sunrise - our calves are still aching from the downhill! When my brother and I got sick, Attam looked after us with great care. He is a wonderful guide, always willing to answer silly questions, and loves to chat. I would recommend bringing plenty of water purification tablets (or a water filter) as bottled water becomes very expensive the higher you go. Also make sure sure to bring antibiotics and altitude sickness medications as pharmacies are very scarce on this relatively remote hike. Possible to do this hike without a porter if you are used to doing multi-day hikes carrying relatively heavy loads, however most of the other trekkers employed local porters.

We'll be back for it

Unfortunately, we were not able to complete even one full day of the Manaslu Circuit trek, as we got hit by a rock fall on the very first day. My boyfriend was hit by the stones, but luckily, only on the leg. However, he couldn't walk any further and we had to get evacuated by helicopter the following morning. Our guide Raju and porter Amrit, were wonderful through all this and helped us as much as they could, which was extremely precious. Even Khum from the office came to the hospital when we arrived and helped us with all the arrangements. We are extremely grateful for their great help and assistance and surely will be back to complete the trek next year !

Manaslu Circuit Trek

Manaslu Circuit Trek is a really nice trek with beautiful scenery and just demanding enough to make it also a hiking adventure. It is also easily doable to carry your own backpack. However I did not have the greatest time since I am a solo woman traveller and I booked a group tour only to find out one day before when I asked that I am the only one who will go with just the guide (they would not have offered me this information by themselves). I do not recommend to do the same. I normally travel a lot on my own but it was really lonely and I sometimes did not feel comfortable alone with the guide. You will not meet many other hikers (at least I did not) and if feels weird if you are always eating and sitting on your own having nothing to do when it's dark early and already cold outside. Otherwise from sleeping arrangement over food everything went well. Just make sure your not alone and have a group to go with (actually from the manaslu rules you should be at least 2 pple and a guide to get the permit apparently the agency must have gotten a "ghost" permit without informing me I just learned about that rule while coming back to kathmandu, which I also think it is not nice to not inform me of me beeing actually illegal).

Incredible trip with main man Raju

My friend and I ended up with this local operator and our guide, Raju, for our first Himalayan trek (first major high altitude trek). Kumi (owner) and Raju were consummate professionals - no messing us about, they did their utmost to make the trek affordable, safe, and enjoyable in every way. Raju remains perfectly serious on the trail but lightens up immediately once in camp, never drinks, smokes or does anything to impair his abilities. One of a kind guide. One of a kind trek with gorgeous sights and fewer people. Highly recommend. Well be back with them for our next trip.

Beautiful Manaslu Trek, great scenery

We went at the start of Mai and had great weather and good views of the mountains. A lot of rain during the nights, but that was no problem. The trekking itself was amazing. The scenery you see is so much more diverse than I expected. Beautiful! I found some days pretty heavy, eventough I live in Austria and I am used to long hikes. But still, I managed and absolutely enjoyed it.

Manaslu Trek = 5 stars, Guide = 2 stars, Company = 4 stars

The Manaslu circuit trek was spectacular and I would highly recommend doing this tour to anyone, but with a different company and/or guide. The scenery was great, the hiking was interesting, it was not too crowded and the cultural exposure was very nice. Unfortunately I had a bad experience with the guide provided to me through the local operator, Dawa. The guide was unprofessional and had a bad attitude which made spending 2+ weeks alone with him not so fun. A few examples of his behavior to back up this claim: 1. There is one rest day built into our itinerary, which is scheduled for the later days of the hike when you are tired and at high altitude. This is supposed to help you acclimate to high altitude. It also helps to have a rest day available if you get sick. My guide wanted to use the rest day on the 4th day (of 14) so he could "wash his clothes". WTF I found this very selfish and unprofessional and made him stick to the normal itinerary. 2. There is another day on the itinerary where you are supposed to do a side hike to visit a monastery that is two hours off the main trail. The day before the guide suggested we stop early (at 10:30 am) instead of continuing on another 1.5 hours to the location we were scheduled for. Little did I know that by stopping early it would ensure we could not do the monastery the next day. He did not tell me this and I was very disappointed we could not go to the monastery. It seemed like he wanted to stop early to be in a village where he had friends to hang out with, again very selfish. The entire hike I got the feeling that my guide just wanted to do the bare minimum, while I saw other guides enthusiastically offering their clients extra side trips and interesting commentary on the area. 3. We tried to hike to Manaslu base camp one day, which is something that nearly every other group was also doing. My guide suggested we do this hike too, but after an hour or two he started trying to convince me to turn around because he wanted to get back to the hotel for lunchtime. He obviously did not want to be doing this, even though he offered it and we brought snacks with us for lunch. It was completely safe and there were many other groups doing this hike just minutes behind us. When I told him I wanted to continue to base camp, he got visibly mad and basically stormed off ahead of me, leaving me hiking alone for 20+ minutes at the worst possible time. At this point the conditions became sketchy: it was much colder and windier, I was hiking up a steep slope on snow and ice, and visibility was so bad that I could not see the guide in front of me nor did he hear me when I yelled his name multiple times, as he had stormed off far ahead leaving me all alone. I felt very scared and when I finally caught up with him I yelled at him and forced us to turn around even though we were probably 5-10 minutes from base camp. Leaving me alone for so long in this situation was unacceptable and dangerous. There are many more smaller things, but I had a really bad experience with Dawa and would warn anyone to avoid trekking with him.

Manaslu Trek in April

I had a great time on this trek! My guide was very knowledgeable and attentive, and he and my porter took good care of me. When I fell ill for a couple of days, they adjusted our itinerary accordingly which was very much appreciated! It was beautiful trekking and I recommend this company to anyone thinking about the Manaslu Circuit Trek.

Amazing Manaslu circuit trek with Raju Kandel

My experience of the Manaslu circuit trek organised by the local operator and led by Raju Kandel has been teriffic. The Manaslu circuit is amazingly beautiful, is relatively quiet and tends to be quite challenging at times. Possibly most importantly, the Manaslu circuit gives you an authentic insight in the local Nepali culture. Prior to this trek I spent some months in a rural village in Nepal to experience the life here and opposed to other more popular treks in Nepal that only show you a picture perfect tourist view of Nepal, this trek gives you an insight of true and authentic life in Nepal. Our guide Raju Kandel has been of unforgettable service to us. His English is good, his knowledge about local culture, environment and the routes are strong, he knows how to avoid risks and take the scenic route instead of the jeep road wherever possible. Although I am reasonably fit, I did face some health challenges on our way up the pass, however Raju monitored me regularly and adjusted planning where needed which gave me some extra support to finish it well. Raju makes you laugh a lot, does everything he can to make the trip as pleasant and safe as possible and really cares about his clients, which is an exceptional combination. If you are considering to do this trek ask for Raju Kandel, he'll make you never forget this adventure. One thing to note is that because the route is less touristic and more authentic, in some places the facilities are basic and in some situations it requires you to put some more effort into communication and being flexible. Cultures, languages and habits are obviously different everywhere, but if you are willing to put in a little bit more effort you wont regret it. I will not forget this trek or Raju our Dai (our big brother) any time soon. quiet and tends to be quite challenging at times. The scenery is so diverse and sometimes really breathtaking. Don't expect anything comfortable though. Also as there are no roads, foods and water grow more expensive the higher you go. Highest place we payed like 5 dollars for a water. I recommend you bring a filter system

Manaslu in March

I did the Manaslu circuit trek a week ago with Guru as my guide and it was amazing. I was a little nervous going to do a trek as a single female alone but from start to finish it was a great experience. Firstly Khum in the office always answered my questions quickly and made me feel comfortable and informed for the trek. Guru managed to help me over the pass in knee deep snow even with my fear of heights! We had a great time along the way and I consider him now a friend, not just a guide. The tour from start to finish was well organised and I didn't have to worry about anything but putting one foot in front of the other! I would definitely return with these guys for any future treks!
